LOWER ELEMENTARY PROGRAM
In a traditional classroom, children are tasked to sit at their desk and have few options to choose where or how they learn the curriculum. In a Montessori environment, children are permitted to work on the floor with mats or at a table with or without friends. They are permitted to use hands on materials and are self motivated to learn and come to their own discovery of ideas and concepts. Traditional classrooms often have to keep to a set curriculum and pace to keep up with a predetermined set of standards. However, in a Montessori classroom, lessons are given either individually or in a small group. A child may take as long as they need to on a lesson, and set the pace when they are ready for the next step.
PRESCHOOL/KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM
Dr. Montessori best described the three to six year old child as having an "absorbent mind." She believed that children ages three to six have "intense mental activity" which ultimately translates into a need to process and learn as much new information through their environment as possible. The preschool/kindergarten classroom is the next learning extension after the toddler classroom; whereby students build upon their knowledge foundation. The three to six year old child is consciously learning through purposeful work in an attractively prepared environment where important cognitive, social and emotional skills are developing. Students move freely around the classroom and choose personal work based on whether they are ready for it. The Montessori classroom provides the correct amount of structure, freedom and guidance for students to excel at their own cognitive pace.
TODDLER PROGRAM
The Toddler program are for ages 18 months to 3 years. In the toddler classroom the children start to build a foundation for independence. The children are encouraged to do things for themselves so it helps create self confidence. They are working on the skills to get them ready for preschool. We encourage them to start the potty training process so by the time they are ready to be in the preschool they have the skills needed to use the bathroom with little assistance. In the toddle room we follow the Montessori philosophy of following the child and we focus more on the process than the product.
SUMMER PROGRAM
They will kick off the summer with the grand ol' United States of America! To celebrate our nation's independence, we will be creating creating American flags and artwork of fireworks with blasts of colors. We will learn more about our nation's bird symbol, the bald eagle, and the states that make up our general country. We will also make some apple pie to enjoy as a special treat.
EXTENDED DAY
For the extended day they offer an hour before school care and an hour after school care for an additional fee. The before care is from 7:30am to 8:30am and the after care is from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. During before and after care the children play outside and/or with our daycare toys such as trains, doll houses, board games, tinker toys, etc.
Selection Criteria: Selective
At Green Gables Montessori, they want to ensure that not only is our environment a good fit for your child but if your child will be able to do well in our setting. Children in our environment need to be able to be independent, cooperate, and respect the rights and needs of others. We do not expect each and every child to be fully independent, cooperative, or respectful at all times, but to at least have the foundation to build upon for them to further develop their potential.
