NURSERY (AGES 2-4)
Cricklade Manor Nursery is a happy and inspiring environment for children aged 2-4 years, in light and spacious classrooms set in a beautiful and secure walled garden. Cricklade Manor Nursery is open year-round from 7.30am-6pm, every day filled with fun and friendship. With an outstanding team of staff and use of the school’s amazing on-site facilities, including the swimming pool and Forest School, boys and girls thrive, make friends and build confidence in a warm and stimulating environment.
PRE-PREP (AGES 4-7)
The Pre-Prep department includes Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. It is a key time in a child’s education, because it lays the foundations for all the learning to come. In these vital years, it is not only what but how a child learns that will have a huge impact on their future education. In the right environment, they will form positive, attitudes to learning, understanding the difference between ‘I can’t do it’ and ‘I can’t do it yet’, building routes to confidence. They will learn to try, fail, dust themselves off and try again, equipping themselves for a lifetime of challenges.Small class sizes give children an advantage at all ages, but make a huge difference in the early years, when a few months in age can mean a huge difference in development. Our small classes allow every child to get enough attention and support from their teacher, allowing them to build skills rapidly.
PREP (AGES 7-11)
Building on the firm foundations of the Pre-Prep department, children moving into Year 3 have developed the skills they need to be pro-active learners, with the confidence to ask for help when they need it, and the desire to take on new challenges. Learning becomes more structured, and pupils steadily build skills and techniques to assist in problem solving. We continue to support and challenge them, encouraging them to experiment, make mistakes and learn from them.By the time they join the Prep department, our boys and girls are already used to working collaboratively and independently, and from Year 3 onwards, we see a steady increase in self-discipline. Our specialist teachers help channel this positivity, and support the children in grasping more complex concepts and strategies, building day by day to a broad and thorough understanding.

Things to note
Science laboratories
They talk a lot at Cricklade Manor about helping our children develop a love of learning. A perfect example would be the impact of our science laboratories on pupils’ attitudes to this core academic subject. Having access to fully equipped labs dramatically enhances their experience of science. There are opportunities for children of all ages to take part in practical experiments, bringing science to life, sparking a passion for and a deeper understanding of physics, chemistry and biology. Pupils learn practical scientific skills and principles, as well as the responsible handling of chemicals, Bunsen burners and other key pieces of scientific equipment, which will put them at an advantage in senior school.
Sports facilities
Sport is key to life at Cricklade Manor Prep, building gross motor skills, teamwork, strategic thinking, fitness and mental wellbeing. As well as plenty of time built into the curriculum, our pupils have access to high quality sport facilities in all weathers.The full-sized sports hall is equipped for very wide range of sports, from gymnastics and netball, to indoor cricket and fencing. Outside, are two full-sized grass pitches for rugby, football and cricket, as well as astro pitches for hockey and netball, and two hard tennis courts.
Lego robotics
In an increasingly technological world, developing a thorough grounding in information technology is vital. As at most schools, children here have access to computers, and learn a range of IT skills, but it is the Lego robotics which really makes a difference to their grasp of technology and its application in a wider context. Within our tech curriculum, children from Year 3 use Lego robotics, programmable robotic kits using computer elements, bricks, modular sensors and motors
Forest School
The beautiful Forest School area is dedicated to outdoor learning. Time there is special, giving our children space and freedom. There are countless ways outdoor learning can support the academic curriculum, from maths and science to art and English, but crucially it helps pupils develop a deeper understanding of and respect for the natural world, underlining the key principle that we have to work within the Earth’s resources.
Art
Step into the school office and the incredible displays on the walls reveal the standard of art at Cricklade Manor Prep. We are incredibly proud of our Art Department and the opportunities it provides to our pupils to explore their creativity and develop skills across a wide range of visual arts, from painting and pastels to batik and ceramics, fired in our own kiln. As well as the smaller, individual pieces of work, there is scope for the children to create on much bigger scale, including the enormous art installations displayed in the atrium outside the main hall each term.
