Early Years
The Kindergarten and Reception classes for 3 to 5 year olds, suit the needs of very young children. There is a warm and welcoming atmosphere which is a happy learning environment for children beginning their formal education. The children learn through play and having fun, they engage them in a variety of activities and they are very much a part of the whole school. Even at this young age pupils integrate with the older children by attending assemblies and taking part in school events such as school productions and Sports Day.
Infants
At Ayscoughfee they ensure that the transition from Reception to Infant classes is a smooth one. Children move from learning through play to more structured lessons but we still have lots of fun! They follow the National Curriculum which covers Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Design and Technology, ICT, History, Geography, Art, Music and PE. Pupils also benefit from the specialist teachers whom they have lessons with for PE, Spanish and Music. Pupils have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, piano and the drums are popular choices.
Juniors
The pupils are taught the skills required to become lifelong learners and there is a strong focus on Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Computing and developing the personal interests of the child. The independence allows them to incorporate the best of the National Curriculum subjects and beyond. As your children's learning journey through the school continues, they foster independence through personal study and research and this prepares them for the transition to Senior School.
Forest School

For some years now, they have been working alongside Children’s Woodland Adventures to provide Forest School sessions for all our children aged 3-11 years old.Forest School offers children excellent learning opportunities in the richest classroom they have – the outdoors. The sessions link the curriculum and classroom based learning to the outdoors through practical activities, encouraging the children to explore and play whilst developing their love and understanding of the natural environment.

They pride ourselves on being a family school, and so also provide before and after school care for children. Life is increasingly complicated, stressful and extremely busy for all parents. At Ayscoughfee they recognise the need to provide first class ‘wrap round’ care for all the children at any time that a parent might need it – even at a moment’s notice.
Drama
The ability to stand up and talk in front of an audience is an important life skill. Every child at Ayscoughfee is given plenty of opportunities to participate in Drama and every child will learn words, act, sing and dance in the annual Junior and Infant productions. All children participate in class assemblies and become used to speaking in front of the whole school from the age of 3. The self-confidence this gives is readily apparent and the enthusiasm with which the children engage in drama is a pleasure to behold.
Music
The benefits of music in education are well documented. Music can be important to a child’s development of a positive self-image and need for self-expression. Music has a proven link with cognitive ability and memory and is a good vehicle for developing self-discipline, team work and social skills. All children are encouraged to learn to play a musical instrument.
Sport
Sport is an integral part of the school curriculum both participative and competitive. The specialist teachers provide pupils with a high quality of physical education.
