WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre in Lancashire is a 600-acre wetland reserve where families can discover over 100 species of wildfowl and water birds from around the world. Adventure play areas: Dart, zip and zoom around our nature-based play areas as you unleash your inner dragonfly. For older kids, head towards our huge play area located by our gift shop. From zip wire screams and scramble net laughs to treehouse trailblazing, our huge adventure playground is perfect for hours of fun.
Paddle and Play: Splash and scream your way through the rain curtain at our wet play area. Control the flow of the play stream by raising and lowering the sluice gates. Or see how high you can jump in the in-ground trampolines.
Wild Walk: Ready for a wild adventure? Head to Wild Walk and explore a hidden gem and meander through a maze of wetland tracks, squelch through muddy meadows and bounce across the wobbly web bridge. On the way, look out for dazzling dragonflies and beautiful butterflies.
Canoe Safari: A canoe safari is an adventurous way to explore the winding waterways of our wetland centre and discover areas you can’t reach on foot. Glide past reed beds and beneath overhanging tree branches as you’re surrounded by nature.
Boat tour: A guided boat tour is the perfect way to get a dragonfly’s eye view of our meandering waterways, peaceful water meadows and tranquil reed beds.
Pond dipping: From dragonfly nymphs to back-stroking beetles – discover the magnificent wetland creatures living just below the surface. Pond dipping is a fun way to meet the incredible insects and awesome amphibians who call our humble ponds home.
Nature reserve: Martin Mere, near Ormskirk, in Lancashire is where wilderness and family-friendliness combine. A survey in 2002 recorded well over 2,000 different species of birds, mammals, insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles and mini-beasts living in and around the mere which gives the site its name.
Talks and tours: Learn more about our amazing wetland wildlife on our talks and tours. When you arrive, check the What’s On board for that day’s schedule as they are subject to change.
