What to see

  • As well as an original pair of Victorian steam engines, the museum houses a pump collection, model railway, Victoria Line carriage and last but not least, a large and unique firefighting collection!
  • With plenty of interactive activities, the museum is popular with visitors of all ages and the fire-engine, model railway and train drivers cab make it especially popular with kids!
  • The pump house itself is still home to pair of rare19th-century Marshall steam engines that used to operate the pumping station. These can occasionally be seen in action (see website for `running days'). The museum shop stocks books on local history but its main focus is on transport, and rail in particular, with an extensive selection of books and scale models.
