Totnes Rare Breeds Farm is a small, family-run petting attraction located beside the South Devon Steam Railway. It offers an interactive and friendly environment where both children and adults can get close to animals. The farm is wheelchair and buggy friendly, making it accessible to everyone.

Visitors can enjoy unique experiences such as handling one of the ten resident owls, grooming mischievous Shetland ponies, or cuddling rabbits and guinea pigs. The Hatchery also offers the chance to meet more exotic creatures like ball pythons and bearded dragons. The relaxed setting allows you to spend as much or as little time as you like.

Admission prices are £10 for adults, £8.50 for children (3–15), and free for under 3s, with family tickets at £35. Concessions are £9.50.

  • The Owl Experience: Ever wondered what it's like to look into an owl's eyes from just an arm's length away? The farm offer the opportunity to handle our 10 resident owls to really take in the beauty of the species.  £35. No requirement to pre-book.
  • Shetland Pony Grooming: If you fancy a more relaxed afternoon, why not sit down and give our 2 mischievous Shetland Ponies a fresh hair-do or a well-needed brush up. £4.50. No requirement to pre-book.
  • Hatchery: The Hatchery and Pets' Corner is home to the Farm's smaller animals. If your looking for the perfect cuddle or picture-perfect moment, our rabbits and guinea pigs are always happy to lend a hand. Feeling brave? Why not hold a ball python or a bearded dragon? 

Facilities

  • Parking: No on-site parking, the nearest car park is located at the Pavilion Leisure Centre (TQ9 5XW) where you only pay for as long as you need. You can also park at the mainline train station (TQ9 5JR) but you have to pay for an all day ticket.
  • Food & Drinks: The Garden Café serves food & beverages.
  • Toilets: The nearest public toilets are on the South Devon Railway platform a short walk across the level crossing.

If you would like one, or multiple, of our friendly animals to attend a private event, wedding or birthday party, please contact us outlining your specific requests so we can check availability and tailor plans to your needs. We attend many different events, fates, weddings, schools, rest homes, pre-schools and many more.

  • The Farm is open from 10am to 4.30pm everyday (last admission is 4:00pm)
  • Open everyday until Monday 10th November, 10am to 4pm including all Bank Holidays.

  • By Car: We advise parking at the Pavilion Leisure Centre (TQ9 5XW) where you only pay for as long as you need. Follow the footpath that runs alongside the playing fields down to the bottom of the mainline train station. There the footpath turns right down to the river where you turn left and head over the bridge to the South Devon Railway and we're on the other side of the tracks.
  • By Train: Trains stop at Totnes on many local and national routes. Follow signs from the station down to the river and across to the farm.
