Blair Castle has been the home of the Atholl family for over seven centuries. The castle has had a diverse history, witnessing both turbulent and peaceful times, enlarged and adapted over 750 years. Home to politicians, soldiers, agriculturalists and entrepreneurs, the family history is brought to life against a backdrop of fine 18th century interiors and Scots Baronial architecture, in 30 rooms.

The Gardens & Grounds laid out within the 18th Century, the Gardens at Blair Castle feature a nine-acre walled garden, a wooded grove, gothic folly, a kirk ruin, and extensive deer park. Experience a fun filled family day out where the children can expel energy in our woodland adventure playground, feed red deer and dress for battle in the castle ballroom.

  • The Gardens & Grounds: Blair Castle is at the heart of historic landscape which was laid out in the 18th century and features a nine-acre walled garden, an extensive wooded grove, a ruined Kirk, a red deer park and a gothic folly. Highland cattle graze in fields nearby and the native red squirrel can often be spotted amongst the branches of some of the garden’s trees.
  • Families and Children Visiting Blair Castle: Experience a fun filled family day out where the children can expel energy in our woodland adventure playground, feed red deer and dress for battle in the castle ballroom.   • Parking: Free parking for visitors is available 100 metres from the castle for 200 cars and up to 20 coaches at any given time.
  • Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi to our valued guests within Blair Castle, and this is accessible throughout the castle from the following network.

What to see

Events:

  • The Atholl Craft Collective: The Craft Fayre at Blair Atholl Village Hall is in its 5th year. They support makers, bakers and creators from the local area whom showcase and sell what they make. Tea, coffee and cakes are also available. Due to popular demand they have added an extra date for a Christmas Craft Fayre on 18th October.
  • Legends of the Castle: Discover Blair Castle after dark on a tour through the castle and hear spooky tales told by characters of the past. Put on your best Halloween outfit and join us for some spooky fun on Thursday 30th October from 5.30pm.

  • By Car: Travelling from Perth heading north: Travel north on the A9 past Pitlochry and take the next junction to the right signposted Blair Atholl, follow the road round and down to the T junction, take a right turn to Blair Atholl, travel through Bridge of Tilt (24-hour petrol garage here if needed) and over the bridge, you will then see the stone walls and iron gates of the castle ahead of you on your right.
  • By Train: Travel to Blair Atholl by rail, the train station is within walking distance of the castle. Links to a couple of timetables can be found here Scotrail and The Trainline. 
  • By Bus: Bus services are available from Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Local bus services from Pitlochry and The House of Bruar drop off in our carpark.
