Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is housed in a stunning Grade II listed landmark building that has watched over the city’s Chamberlain and Victoria Squares since 1885, welcoming millions of visitors over the years. We're delighted that Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery has reopened its doors. 

As we welcome visitors back, we are sharing more of the city’s collections and telling stories about Birmingham as a complex, vibrant, and multicultural city. The gallery spaces have also undergone sensitive flooring and roof restoration work, ensuring that you experience your favourite artworks in a whole new light.

  • The Pre-Raphaelites: Four newly refurbished galleries feature over 60 paintings, sculpture and stained glass panels by artists including Ford Madox Brown, Edward Burne-Jones, John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Simeon Solomon.
  • The Staffordshire Hoard: Discover the story of the Staffordshire Hoard, the largest hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold ever found.
  • The Round Room: The museum’s iconic Round Room will be at the heart of the reopening with new and familiar artworks back on display surrounding Jacob Epstein’s stunning bronze sculpture, Lucifer.
  • Industrial Gallery: The Industrial Gallery will reopen with a new ‘Made in Birmingham’ display, which celebrates the city of a thousand trades, its self-deprecating humour, creative people and their worldwide impact.
  • Wild City: Two new galleries dedicated to children and families, telling stories about nature in the city.
  • Birmingham: Its People, Its History, The galleries tell the story of Birmingham from its beginnings as a small medieval settlement to becoming a globally significant, modern city.
  • Exhibitions: In addition to our permanent galleries and displays, we host a diverse programme of temporary exhibitions throughout the year.

  • Parking: Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery does not have a car park. The closest car park is Town Hall Car Park which is 5 minutes walk from the museum. It is operated by Birmingham City Council and is open 24 hours per day, every day except Christmas Day. Charges apply. Blue Badge parking is free with no time limits.
