Description

Westville House School is Independent Primary school in Bradford for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

Westville is full of happy, empowered children who enjoy learning, take ownership for it and develop as lifelong learners. They provide every one of our pupils the very best teaching, the highest standards of pastoral care and a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities.  We instil confidence, build resilience and nurture mind and spirit, preparing the children for the senior schools of choice but also for life beyond school. For children, Westville is an exploration that is both inspiring and challenging. They encourage independence of mind, curiosity and aspiration, allowing each child the opportunity to maximise their individual strengths and achieve their potential. Academic standards are excellent but they also consider happiness and emotional resilience as integral. Physical health, emotional well-being, moral understanding, an appreciation of culture and the arts, science and the humanities all form part of the core curriculum.  Westville children believe in themselves and aspire to contribute.

Facilities

PRE-PREPARATORY
In the Pre-Prep we recognise that every child is precious and unique.  During their time with us they want to inspire the natural curiosity and love of learning, so by the end of year 2 they have nurtured and developed the skills they will need to continue on with their educational journey. The children continue the Early Years Curriculum that began in Woodlands Pre-School.  The emphasis is still very much on learning through play, but the children are also learning phonics, blending sounds into words and segmenting words into sounds. Reading begins, everyday print starts to have meaning and the children practice correct letter formation.  In addition to preparing for the more structured activities of Key Stage One, they begin swimming lessons at the Ilkley Pool – a huge source of excitement.

PREPARATORY
Westville’s Preparatory Department provides an outstanding opportunity for children to flourish.  An innovative and exciting curriculum allows them to consolidate their strengths and discover new opportunities to excel.  Academic challenges alongside enhanced opportunities for art, drama, music and sport inspire the children and channel their talents. As well as helping the Children gain admission to the schools of their choice, the Preparatory Department encourages intellectual curiosity, independent thought, oracy skills and effective learning habits.  Positive values and high standards of behaviour are promoted and the children assume roles of responsibility, providing an opportunity to serve the Westville community.

Features

Things to note

SPORTS
With games twice a week, a wide choice of activities, regular inter-school fixtures and numerous fitness clubs, the children are healthy and active. Participation in sport helps Westville’s children to develop their physical, social and intellectual skills.  Through sport, the children learn about teamwork, build confidence and learn how to conduct themselves with integrity and humility.

MUSIC
They encourage our children to learn a musical instrument as a means of self-expression.  Many are involved in ensemble work through choirs and bands, with numerous opportunities for solo performance.  Individual instrumental lessons are provided by a team of highly qualified specialist teachers and we cater for most instruments and musical tastes.

ART
Westville’s rich Art education seeks to develop a child’s artistic interests and creativity.  The specialist Art teacher brings fresh ideas and encourages the children to express themselves through painting, drawing and design.  The broad curriculum includes visits to art galleries and trips to areas of outstanding natural beauty that the children capture through their work.
