Curriculum
The Department for Education (DfE) requires schools to work within the framework of the National Curriculum. In keeping with this, the subjects studied by our children are:Mathematics, English, Science, Computing, Design Technology, History, Geography, Citizenship, Art & Design, Music, PE, Religious Education, Personal, Social, Health and Relationships Education (PSHE+R) and Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education (SMSC).The ‘Intent’ behind our overall curriculum is to provide a ‘broad and balanced learning experience’ for all our pupils in order to nurture their overall development and ensure outstanding progress.
Religious Education
As a Voluntary Aided Muslim School, the teaching of Religious Education is predominantly based on the Islamic Faith. Whilst one of the key focuses is upon the teaching of the Islamic faith, the school’s RE also promotes respect, knowledge, understanding and tolerance of all other principal religions and people of non-faith. This is done through the Al Risalah Trust developed RE scheme of work. With reference to other religions, the Religious Education curriculum is presented in a series of themes designed to link with other subject areas where appropriate. Pupils cover aspects such as the places of worship, celebrations, signs and symbols of other faiths. As the children progress through the school it is intended they develop a good understanding of the role of religion in people’s lives, with particular reference to Christianity as being the main religion of Great Britain.
Special Educational Needs
The Orchard Primary School is committed to inclusion. They work hard to eliminate all forms of prejudice and discrimination. The aim is to ensure that the school provides an environment where all of the pupils feel safe and can flourish. This is achieved by engendering a sense of community and belonging, and to offer new opportunities to all learners. This does not mean that they will treat all the learners in the same way, but that they will respond to their personalised needs by taking into account of their varied life experiences and circumstances.
