The Iona School is Independent Primary school in Nottingham for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
The school was founded in 1985 by a group of teachers and parents who established The Iona School Association with the intention that this education should be available to all children regardless of race, religion or economic background.The work of the teachers is inspired by the wisdom and contemporary relevance of Rudolf Steiner’s educational philosophy and how it prepares children for the changing modern world. The school’s ethos and teaching, supports the rule of English civil and criminal law, they do not teach any partisan views or undermine this.The vision is to support the children to have emotional stability, intellectual flexibility, sound judgement, inner freedom and social awareness to ensure they have healthy, positive and fulfilling lives. They aim to stimulate and develop the faculties and skills which will enable the pupils to learn: for life, from life and throughout life.

Kindergarten
Experiencing the Goodness of the World (age 3 to 6 years), The Kindergarten meets the needs of the children in the first developmental phase of life. The Kindergarten Teacher’s aim is to create a secure physical and emotional space in which children can experience the goodness of the world and become absorbed in free imaginative play, which is the real work in childhood.The minimum numbers of days children can attend the Kindergarten is 3 mornings per week. They expect children to increase their attendance over the course of their first term. Attendance must be full time by the start of the term following the child’s 5th birthday.
Main School
Recognising the individual needs of the child (age 6-11), When they enter the main school aged six, pupils are guided by their class teacher, who usually remains with them for the rest of their time at the school. This facilitates the development of a close relationship where the teacher is able to recognise the individual needs of the child within the context of the whole class. This, together with the rhythm and structure of the day, serves to create a secure framework in which the child can develop. Steiner Waldorf Schools have their own curriculum which meets the gradually changing consciousness of the child throughout school life. The core content of this curriculum is delivered during the Main Lesson period which occupies the first third of the school day.

Music
Singing is an important activity for all ages. From the age of seven pupils are taught to play the recorder.
Painting and Art
Painting, modelling and drawing lessons are usually given by the class teacher. However, as the children get older, a specialist teacher may take these lessons.
Games
Emphasis is placed on those activities that develop co-ordination and spatial orientation. Team games are seen as social activities so that the competitive aspect is secondary to the co-operative endeavour.
Outdoor Activities
They have a large area of land at the top of the school site where the children can play freely and safely. The wide variety of plant life is valuable for the study of botany and there are garden areas which pupils cultivate for enjoyment and as part of their studies.
Festivals
Festivals are an important part of the school’s social and spiritual life and are held at least once a term. The children take part in plays, musical performances, singing, eurythmy and recitation.
After School Club
The children can play with puzzles, games, sit in the quiet corner to read, draw and engage in craft activities. The children all share a light meal usually bread/ rice crackers, humus and fruit. They also go out to play in the playground and sandpit during all weathers.
