Hollygirt School

Description

Hollygirt School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 3 to 16 (Gender - 3 to 16 )

Hollygirt is a happy school where they have high expectations that all our students will achieve their very best and on the way be offered lots of opportunities to shine. They provide a stimulating curriculum with a broad range of subjects and many extras. The students go on frequent trips and do much practical work to support their learning.  They get involved with charity ventures, dress up (at every opportunity) and take part in competitive sports, concerts and shows.  Hollygirt life is full, exciting and fun! The atmosphere is homely and students are well supported in all their pastoral and academic needs not just by their class teacher but by every member of staff, who will know them by name.

Facilities

Nursery and Reception Classes
At Hollygirt they aim to provide your child with a good quality education, in a happy and secure environment. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) looks after children aged 3 to 5, in two classes: Nursery and Reception. The two year groups play together but are taught separately. They occupy a large self-contained room, adjacent to the Junior School. The room is bright, welcoming, safe and its walls are covered in the children’s work. They have a discrete area to facilitate the outdoor curriculum and share a playground with the Junior School. The children use the other facilities of the school, for example computer suites and the school halls. Whilst all the children in Reception are full time, several begin Nursery on two or three days a week until they settle in. The Nursery and Reception classes provide an excellent foundation for a Hollygirt education. They pride ourselves on an outstanding partnership with our EYFS parents. Parents are informed of half term topics and areas to focus on at home. Children take home a reading diary, which is a two-way communication tool between home and school.

Junior School
Hollygirt Junior School provides a homely but disciplined environment where girls and boys can flourish in our small classes. There is a single class in each year. The small classes and engaged teachers provide an environment that allows each child to achieve their absolute best.  At Hollygirt we recognise that every child is an individual and that is reflected in how staff teach lessons, enabling those at the top of the class to excel, whilst providing support for those who need it.

Senior School
The Senior School is for children aged 11-16. They usually take a two form entry (Key Stage 3 and 4). At Hollygirt we have high expectations of all of our pupils, both academically and socially.  We like our pupils to get involved in the whole life of the school and to take advantage of the many opportunities offered to them.  With a focus on traditional values, they nurture and support each individual to fulfil their best potential.

Clubs and Extra-Curricular Activities
Clubs and extra-curricular activities are organised by members of staff for pupils in Nursery to Year 6 and operate during lunchtime and after school. A programme is produced each term and a copy given to every pupil.  Pupils are encouraged to get involved in the wider life of the school and we aim to provide a broad range that will offer something for everyone.  In most cases there is no charge for extra-curricular activities.

Scholarships

Academic Scholarships
Academic scholarships are available on entry to Year 7 to pupils who we believe have the capacity to reach the highest grades and to be ambassadors for the school. In addition to the Entrance Day, they will be invited in to school to sit some formal assessments which may include Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning and internal English and Maths tests. This will take place in January, following the Entrance Day. Hollygirt will make recommendations of suitability to some following the Entrance Day but parents may opt for the additional testing if they believe it is appropriate for their child. Academic Scholarships award up to 25% reduction of basic fees for the five years a pupil will remain in Senior School. These are not means-tested but are subject to specific terms and conditions of award.
