Sutton Valence School is a co-educational day and boarding school for ages 2 to 18.
Selection Criteria: Selective
A pupil can join Nursery from age two. They are not selective however they offer every child a taster day to get a feel of whether the Nursery is the right fit for them. Pre-Prep department (Reception to Year 2) is also non-selective and, again, they offer a taster day prior to making a formal offer of a place. For entry to Years 3 to 6, pupils will be invited to spend a full day with their current year group. There is an assessment with the Academic Deputy Head, involving Reading, Spelling, Mathematics and Non-verbal Reasoning, to ascertain the child’s academic levels. If additional educational needs are identified, they will contact the parents and proceed appropriately. Pupils wishing to join First Form (Year 7) will be required to take an online Junior Entrance Examination. These are held for all registered First Form applicants in November, prior to entry to the School the following September. The Junior Entrance Examination is administered online using the ISEB (Independent Schools Examination Board) Common Pre-Test. The primary route of entry to Third Form (Year 9) is via Deferred-Entry. As such, any pupils seeking entry to the School in Third Form 2025 or beyond are advised to apply for a place for Deferred Entry whilst in Year 6, or before. This route requires candidates to sit the ISEB (Independent Schools Examination Board) Common Pre-Test at their current preparatory school in the Michaelmas Term of Year 6. Special arrangements will be made for pupils who live outside the UK. In addition to the Common Pre-Test, all applicants must meet with the Headmaster before an offer of a Deferred Entry place is made. Further details are available here. Pupils currently in Year 7 or 8 who wish to be considered for a place in Third Form (Year 9) but have not taken the ISEB Pre-Test whilst in Year 6, should contact the Admissions Office for further details of entrance requirements.Pupils wishing to join Sixth Form are expected to achieve at least 32 points across six GCSE subjects. Applicants will also be assessed by the Headmaster, Senior Deputy Head or Academic Deputy Head.
