Stroud High School is leading State Secondary school in Stroud. This is a Selective school for kids age 11 to 18 years. Gender - Girls
As a community we are on an exciting journey trying to define the 21st Century grammar school. They want to be a school where bright students can thrive and flourish in an environment and culture which enables the “exceptional” to become an everyday occurrence. Our students and staff know that this takes hard work, the humility to keep improving and a passion for learning itself. The community is built on excellent relationships, a respect for individuality, a commitment to inclusivity as well as a sense of fun – the way we all treat each other is as important as what we do.
Key Stage 3
The foundations for success of our students are built in Key Stage 3. They experience a broad curriculum of discovery. In Key Stage 3, students develop the skills to be an effective learner. They are inspired to be curious, ask questions and become intellectually confident. The curriculum encourages them to deepen their understanding of themselves and aspire to their personal best. The student experience in Key Stage 3 underpins the transition into their own bespoke curriculum in Key Stage 4.
Key Stage 4
Students personalise the Key Stage 4 curriculum around their own preferences, and are encouraged to enhance their understanding of themselves as high performance learners. Independent advice and guidance is available to support students when making curriculum choices In this Key Stage students study a core of English Language, English Literature, Maths and Science (combined or separate) and then an additional four choices (or three if a student is studying Biology, Physics and Chemistry as individual GCSEs).
Key Stage 5
Stroud High Sixth Form students tailor their curriculum based on their own intellectual and creative interests. Students are able to choose from a broad selection of 26 A Level subjects. The majority of students will pursue their passions by studying three A Levels, but there is the option to study a fourth - for example Further Maths. Alongside A Levels, students will study an enriching additional academic qualification of their choice. This could be the Extended Project Qualification, Gold Crest Award, Gold Arts Award, Core Maths or our own Sports Coaching & Leadership programme.

Whether you join us from SHS or from another school – SHSF offers something for everyone along with the opportunity to excel within an aspirational and inspirational learning environment.
Extra Curricular
They offer a wider range of activities for all students to participate in. The way in which students embrace the opportunities in front of them and their enthusiasm for the ‘the extras’, is one of the many things we are really proud of them for.
Clubs and Societies
They offer a broad range of clubs and societies across all ages. Students engage in clubs with enthusiasm and levels of participation are high. In pre-pandemic times nearly all students in Years 7 and 8 participated in at least two extracurricular clubs. This commitment to participation remains strong through all phases of the school.
Sport
Physical education has a key role in the development of all students at Stroud High School. Sport is used to promote collaboration, confidence, perseverance and resilience. We also aim to equip our students with the knowledge, ability and fortitude to continue to enjoy participation in sport beyond their time at Stroud High School.
Drama
There are a variety of extracurricular clubs run by the Drama Department, such as Musical Theatre, Improvisation and Devising, and Special Effects Makeup. Students can also audition to be in the cast of the yearly school productions. Shows alternate between using upper and lower school casts, and a mixture of plays and musicals have been performed. Students are also part of the backstage crew for every show, including positions of Assistant Director, Stage Manager, Lighting and Sound, Set and Props, and Makeup and Costume Designers.
Art
The Art Department run KS4 and KS3 clubs for students to experience techniques not always fully developed during curriculum time. During Enrichment Week, specialist workshops are delivered by visiting artists, such as: screen printing, model making and stop motion photography. Art trips to London, Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff and Oxford are encouraged each year, combined with opportunities to photograph new environments and attend inspiring exhibitions. Many KS5 are also encouraged to attend locally held life drawing classes.
