St. Stephen’s Primary School – Building Each Other Up in Love and Learning. They are very pleased to welcome you to St. Stephen’s Primary School. They hope that this will be the first step on the road to a long and happy partnership with the school. At St. Stephen’s they believe that every child should have the opportunity to reach their full potential within a happy, stimulating and secure environment, where care and respect for each other, their school family and the wider community are paramount. They believe that every child should be encouraged to achieve the highest standards possible, in an atmosphere where all success, great or small, is properly celebrated. They believe that every child should be taught to accept and understand people with different beliefs, needs and circumstances to their own; enabled to develop morally and spiritually, gaining a growing knowledge of the Christian faith; given confidence to grow in responsibility and independence, equipping them for the challenges that lie ahead.
Curriculum
At St Stephen’s CE Primary School, they offer a curriculum, which is broad, balanced and which builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills of all children, whatever their starting points. The curriculum incorporates the statutory requirements of the national curriculum but also takes into account the needs and interests of our pupils – so that everyone can reach their full potential within a happy, stimulating and secure environment. The curriculum is designed using a cross-curricular approach, as they know this enables our children to make connections across their learning, leading to deeper learning experiences so that the learning is purposeful and meaningful. They have developed the curriculum in line with our 5 Year Vision. In particular, we recognise that they want the children to understand their place in the world and to understand that they can make a difference. They believe the children have the potential to change the world and be future leaders for positive change – in their family, community, country or the world.
Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)
St Stephen’s school ensures that all children with additional needs have opportunities to thrive and flourish, demonstrate their abilities and overcome barriers. The ethos is embedded within the vision statement and the school values of Friendship, Service, Peace, Kindness, Respect, Thankfulness and Forgiveness. They have a cohesive approach to additional needs, training teachers and support staff to develop their awareness of a range of needs and enabling the learners to acquire knowledge and build self-confidence. For all our children (regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity, social background, religion, sexual identity, physical ability or educational need) they are keen to ensure they are rounded individuals who are prepared for their future in an ever-changing world. To that end, we encourage our children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to develop their skills and talents and to be as independent as possible.
