Nursery
The early years’ provision at St Peter’s is outstanding. Young children enjoy focused individual teaching in small class sizes enriched by lessons from fully qualified teachers for Music, Games and French.Children can join St Peter’s nursery the day after they turn three for full or part-time education. Your child will study a broad curriculum, including teaching from French, music and sports specialists.Pastoral care is a big priority in creating a hugely supportive and fun atmosphere so children will acquire a love of learning. We have a dedicated Matron on-site and all staff are first aid trained.
Pre-prep
The Pre-prep at St Peter’s is Nursery (from age 3), Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. St Peter’s pre-prep in Devon teaches in small classes, and all pre-prep children have subject specialist teachers in music, games, P.E. and French.Beach School and Forest School have regular slots on the timetable. A bespoke, individual reading programme starts in Nursery and all children are encouraged to read daily.We deeply value the opportunity to help our pupils flourish in the creative arts. Each student learns the recorder from an early age to develop their musical skills, and we have a large space devoted to dance and theatrical performance.
Lower School
Years 3, 4 and 5 develop independence and initiative. Pupils follow our own St Peter’s School Baccalaureate, which has been written taking the core skills required from the government’s published National Curriculum 14 documentation, but the content has been extended and added to in greater depth.
Upper School
Years 6, 7 and 8 inspire and challenge pupils. At St Peter’s Prep School in Devon, children progress to upper school in Year 6 and will navigate independently around the site for all lessons. Classes will be led by expert, specialist teachers for each subject, ensuring a focused and high-quality education for our students.Pupils will achieve much in their academic journey; Spanish is taught alongside French, which will strengthen cognitive skills and result in higher academic success, encourage a positive outlook towards other cultures and languages, and allow greater opportunities for your child to function within a modern globalised world.
Creative & Performing Arts
Pupils at St Peter’s have the opportunity to join four different choirs as well as various ensembles, groups and bands. There are informal ‘teatime’ concerts and larger events at school or locally as well as some fun events such as the House singing competition.All pupils enjoy an hour of drama a week with a specialist teacher in our Performing Arts room: a large, beautiful space equipped with a wall of mirrors for dance. The children take part in small, ensemble concerts and performances and are involved in backstage management. Large theatrical performances take place at local theatres as well as on-site at school. They believe that drama teaches key skills of confidence, adaptability and resilience and it is a subject loved by all.
Expeditions & Activities
Extra-curricular provision at St Peter’s is broad and extensive. On Friday afternoons, the school timetable is collapsed and children choose from a range of activities from sailing to chess, Lacrosse or being part of the school newspaper team.Activities and choice, therefore, form part of the Curriculum and the school day; but, there are also a range of lunchtime and after school activities which are included in the fees or at an extra cost for specialist teachers (e.g. martial arts).
Sport for all
St Peter’s is involved in over 400 sports fixtures a year, offering every pupil the experience of playing competitive sport in their journey through the school. In addition, our activity programme allows children to explore more specialist sports and outdoor education generally, for example, martial arts, tennis, dance, squash and sailing. In fact, two of the pupils became St Peter’s first IAPS’ National Sailing Champions sailing an RS Feva in the Under 11 class, following in the footsteps of former St Peter’s pupil and Olympian, Ben Rhodes.

St Peter’s is in Lympstone, Devon, a beautiful location that sits near both the rural moorland and stunning coastline, as well being only 15 minutes away from the bustling, historic city of Exeter. The classes cater to ages from nursery to upper school. For example, pre-prep starts with Nursery (from age 3) and then your child will move into Reception before they start Year 1 and Year 2.Lower school consists of Years 3, 4 and 5 where education begins to get more challenging and stimulating. The upper school is made up of Years 6, 7, 8; this stage is great at preparing children for their futures as Year 8 students have a 100% success rate of entry to their chosen senior schools.

Scholarships
Scholarships at St Peter’s Preparatory School recognise outstanding academic; art and design; music; performing arts and sporting ability. If your child is in Year 6 then they can apply for a scholarship during their Year 6. If they are awarded a scholarship, it will come into effect for their Years 7 and 8 at the school.
