St Mary of the Angels Catholic Primary School is a State Primary School for kids aged 4 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
The mission is to nurture the children, through an excellent education, to grow into the fullness of their God-given potential. At St Mary’s, they truly live out the Mission Statement: Love Jesus, Love Learning, Love Life. The core values of love, mercy, dignity, compassion, forgiveness, truth and justice, reflect the identity as a Catholic community, inspired by the teachings of Jesus. They cherish every one of the children. They strive for academic excellence, rooted in the personal and spiritual growth of each individual, to ensure that every child has a happy and successful time at St Mary’s. The dedicated and wonderful team of teaching and support staff set high expectations. They work hard to provide a challenging curriculum that engages all pupils, stimulating their interests and joy of learning.
Curriculum
At St Mary of the Angels, they are proud to deliver a curriculum that is broad, enriched, relevant and purposeful. They were delighted that the visitors from Ofsted agreed and praised the curriculum so highly when they visited in Autumn 2019. The current position, post pandemic, is one of tentative steps as we move from recovery mode to regrasping the long-term curriculum focus. Where gaps are found, teachers are skilled in revisiting prior learning and engaging with parents to support children in making accelerated progress. Where possible, additional support has been afforded to the classes most impacted by the pandemic, however safeguarding will always be the key priority. There's also a term by term plan of the EYFS - Early Years Foundation Stage (the Reception class)... with simple ideas for parents to help their child's learning.
Learning Outside the Classroom
Learning outside the classroom is an integral part of life at St Mary's. They place high value on enabling children to get outside and experience their learning in a natural environment. Last year, Forest School was very popular with the children and this year they aim to build on the children's skills and develop their confidence in recognising the abilities they have. Forest School is an inspirational learning journey, which offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in the woodland and natural outdoor environment. In addition, they plan to expand our Forest School provision beyond the school site to local beauty spots - such as Rivacre Valley - and places of historical importance. In doing so, they instantly add flesh to the bones of the creative curriculum which underpins everything we strive for here at St Mary's.
