Rosemead Preparatory School is Independent Primary school in Lambeth for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
The school aims are at the very core of everything they do and are the reason the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) judged Rosemead Prep to be ‘Excellent’ across all areas of Educational Quality – this is the highest grade achievable. The motto, Inspiring Brilliant Futures, reflects our desire to develop a passion for learning that will enable children to aim high and achieve their goals. The school’s success is evident in our pupils’ enviable record of entry to leading senior schools locally in both the independent and maintained sectors.
Nursery
The Foundation Stage begins in the Nursery with a structured pre-school programme for children aged 2-4 years. This gives children a happy introduction to school life, covering all seven areas of their developmental learning. The Nursery timetable consists of a suitable balance of child-initiated learning alongside adult-focused activities. We introduce the children to a selection of activities designed to stimulate development and learning through play in a caring environment. Children have free flow access between the indoor and outdoor environment throughout the day whatever the weather!
Pre-Preparatory
At Rosemead we feel that children embarking on “the best years of their lives” should do so as happy, confident people. The philosophy of learning through play continues in the Reception year. The children are also introduced to a more formal approach to literacy and mathematics, with an emphasis on the teaching of phonics and correct letter formation. Mathematical learning combines practical activities and a published scheme. Specialist teaching begins in the Foundation Stage in music, PE and Spanish.Children spend two full years in Key Stage 1 in mixed ability classes. Our syllabus has been carefully devised and is based on the National Curriculum, which builds on the areas covered during the Foundation Stage.
Preparatory
A carefully prepared syllabus takes account of the requirements of the National Curriculum and stretches pupils in other areas besides. We still emphasise the core subjects: English, mathematics, science and ICT, and standards are high. Other subjects the children continue to study at this Key Stage include history, geography, religious education, art and design technology, Spanish and French, music and PE. The children’s studies are not restricted to the classroom. They enjoy many visits to London museums, galleries and theatres, and various special visitors are invited into school to share their knowledge and expertise. We have particularly enjoyed visits from musicians, storytellers, theatre groups and a Roman soldier. In Year 4 (age 8 – 9 years), the children go on a three-day residential field studies course. The aim is to concentrate on aspects of science and geography in an appropriate rural environment. Year 6 children (age 10 -11 years) go on a five-day residential visit, to participate in activities that enhance their ecological and environmental awareness. Both visits cause much excitement and the build-up is tremendous.
Forest School
They are really excited to be able to offer our Forest School initiative to the children at Rosemead. As you can see the children take part in a variety of different activities ranging from bug hunts to den building, but most importantly having lots of fun!3. Children across the Early Years attend our Forest School sessions once a week in a mixed group from Pre-Nursery to Reception. Despite the name, Forest School can take place in any natural outdoor environment. Our Forest School takes place on our playing fields and surrounding woodland, and also within the school grounds.
Co-Curricular Clubs
They offer an excellent choice of clubs that run before and after school as well as during lunchtimes. These range from Art to Yoga and everything in between. The varied programme of around 100 clubs a week enables children to cultivate a particular passion or to try something completely new. A selection of the clubs on offer can be found below. If you are a current parent looking for the clubs timetable then please visit the Parent Intranet.
Selection Criteria: Selective
They have three main admission points: Nursery (children can join when they are 2 years and 6 months old), Reception (age 4+) and Year 3 (age 7+).
