In the academic year 2016/17 it was ranked in the top 1.3 per cent of all secondary schools in England by the Department for Education.Queen Elizabeth's Girls' School was founded in 1888. The school was the first girls' school to open in Hertfordshire, being administered by the South Herts Division of Hertfordshire County Council until 1965. Originally a grammar school for around 700 girls, the school has expanded significantly and there are now over 1100 girls on roll. On 17 May 2013 the school celebrated its 125th anniversary which was marked by a number of events including the painting of a mural in the main courtyard.

As well as being the final stage of the school journey for QEGS Year 11 students, we offer the perfect setting for new students to join us in the Sixth Form. They ensure a smooth transition from Year 11 into the Sixth Form so that students become independent learners with highly effective study skills. Our Sixth Formers are excellent role models for the younger students. They are encouraged to make the most of the wide variety of leadership and co curricular opportunities available to them. QEGS Sixth Form students achieve outstanding results. With expert support from teaching staff and the Sixth Form team, they are able to progress to their chosen universities, apprenticeships and careers.

Remote Learning: In the event of a local outbreak, the PHE health protection team or local authority may advise a school to fully or partially close temporarily to help control transmission.Queen Elizabeth’s Girls’ School has a contingency plan for this eventuality. This may involve a return to remaining open only for vulnerable children and the children of critical workers and providing remote education for all other students, or it may involve remote education for certain year groups for a period of time.
