Preston Church of England Primary School is for children between the ages of four and eleven years. At Preston Primary School Staff and Governors aim to provide the highest standard of education in a happy and caring environment. They aim to develop in children a love of learning which they hope will last all through their lives. They offer a full broad and balanced curriculum, including a wide range of extra curricular activities.
The modern buildings are set in a pleasant location with tarmac playgrounds and a large playing field to the rear of the school. The school has many facilities including: a drama/music room, multi-purpose room and a gymnasium which is also the school hall where assemblies take place. They also have a library and an all-weather play area for Early Years children.
BREAKFAST CLUB: They offer a breakfast club from 8am—8.50am Monday to Friday during term time. Children are given a healthy breakfast and enjoy a variety of activities under the supervision of experienced staff.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: Preston C of E Primary School is committed to offering a rich source of learning and an essential part of the pupils learning at school are the day visits, residential visits and visitors to school. However, there are times when the cost cannot be borne solely by the school and voluntary contributions will be requested to ensure that the activity takes place. These might include excursions, educational visits, swimming and board and lodging for activities involving residential visits. Parents will be informed by letter if contributions are requested.
SWIMMING: The swimming programme is part of the Government’s drive to ensure that all children can swim 25 metres by the time they reach the end of their primary schooling. The ability to swim is a vital life skill to have; it can help to keep your child safe and is part of your child’s National Curriculum entitlement. All children in Years 3—6 will have 6 sessions during a school year, with catch up sessions for those children who are identified as unable to swim 25 metres. They currently use Goldenstones Pool, Yeovil and pupils are taken to and from the venue by coach accompanied by their class teachers and Learning Support Assistants.
OUTDOOR EDUCATION: A residential week is available for Year 6 children. The week based at Adventure International, Bude, Cornwall includes a range of exciting activities which challenge and inspire children.
AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS: The School runs a number of Extra Curricular Activities and Clubs that take place during and after the school day. These can include activities such as: singing, art, cookery, sporting activities such as football, netball, athletics, hockey and cricket. These clubs are run by members of staff and specialist outside agencies. Details of clubs being offered are distributed to parents via email at the end of every term for the next term. Pupils are encouraged to complete their ’interest’ online form as soon as possible as spaces are limited. Clubs run by outside agencies include craft, dance and sport and sometimes require payment (directly to the Club Leader).
