Description

Prestfelde School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 3 to 13 (Gender - 3 to 13 )

Welcome to Prestfelde, one the UK’s leading independent prep schools. The very best schools develop a love of learning. They challenge, inspire and provide outstanding experiences. They build children’s confidence and self-esteem within an ambitious and nurturing environment.  Prestfelde does this brilliantly. The pupils’ academic successes along with their achievements in so many areas of school life, in and out of the classroom, only tell part of the story at Prestfelde. Pupil wellbeing is at the heart of everything they do. Children are genuinely happy here and the quality of relationships is a cornerstone of our community. They are proud of all the children at Prestfelde, valuing them as individuals. The strength of character and skills gained during their time here ensure they have the best possible start in life and are ready for the next stage of their education.

Facilities

Little Prestfelde
Each morning they all take part in a Little Prestfelde chapel which is led by Mr Robinson, Mrs Thelwell or the school Chaplain. They talk about the teachings of Jesus through the Bible and learn about how they can make the right choices through the values curriculum. The values, good behaviour and work are rewarded by the award of dragon tears. These are very special beads which they put into the coloured house bowls. When they are full, a team chooses an activity for all of Little Prestfelde.Play time is very special. They have the best adventure playground in the world. First they put on the tracksuits to make sure that they take care of the uniform, then they go to the dining hall, where we have a healthy snack and a drink before they go outside. The adults help us in the play and teach them new games. They love to climb, swing and run, developing the strength and coordination which all helps to develop the writing.

Middle School
Back to the classroom for some maths. Quick number games to improve our mental maths skills lead into an active and fun lesson.  Today the learning objective is to work out accurate change in as few pounds and pence as possible.  They have turned the classroom into a stationery shop and they all take turns to buy and sell items.Lesson Five – swimming time!  The expert swimming teachers really help them to improve the style and speed.  They are working hard to prepare for the Middle School House Swimming Gala.Having worked up a serious hunger, it is time for lunch. They head to the dining room, where we always enjoy delicious meals cooked and served by Spiros and his friendly team.  They can choose from soup and bread, salad bar or a hot meal such as roast dinner with all the trimmings.  The puddings are delicious too; it’s hard to pick a favourite, but they do love the sticky toffee pudding!

Senior School
The classmates and I sit down and wait patiently for Mrs. Orchard to begin. We celebrate all of the things pupils have achieved this week. Then it is time to go to morning break. The friends and they get changed in Beckbury and go to have fun on the play equipment and swings. After break, it is time for English; my favourite lesson of all. They are annotating a poem called ‘The Raven’ by Edgar Allen Poe as part of a study of Gothic literature. It is extremely interesting and soon we will be moving onto writing our own Gothic stories. They plan to write a story about a girl who is stranded on an island – I love to write creatively.

Features

Things to note

The Performing Arts
The Performing Arts have long held an important place at the heart of Prestfelde life, and the confidence and enjoyment which children gain from participating in Music, Drama and Dance have important spin-offs in all areas of their education. Individuality is celebrated – almost to the point of including Magic and Street Performance in our website menu! – and those with special talent are looked after by excellently qualified staff. Additionally group performance is most important, with musical groups, concerts, plays and other communal participation at all levels. Enjoyment for all as well as high quality support for those with special interests and talents are the watchwords. This commitment to the Performing Arts is underlined by the excellent facilities, with the 300-seater Blackburn Chapel and Theatre as the shop window for talent.

Physical Education & Games
They firmly believe in the important role that sport plays as part of a balanced education for everyone. They want all pupils to embrace physical activity and make sure it becomes part of their lifestyle in whatever form. The range of different sports on offer help to develop the whole child through team skills, individual determination, competitiveness and self discipline, all of which complement their wider education. An impressive array of sports is offered at Prestfelde, and beyond the major sports – football, rugby and cricket for boys, lacrosse, netball and rounders for girls – there are many other sports and extra activities which awaken and develop other interests including tennis, swimming, cross country, hockey, dance, dodgeball, fencing, athletics and archery
