The vision is to give children the knowledge and skills to be successful by being the best they can be. They want every child to experience success by knowing and understanding what their goals are and the steps they need to take to achieve them. They achieve this by encouraging each individual child to reach their full potential in all areas of the curriculum.
Curriculum
At Our Lady of Victories they provide an education which is rich and varied, placing a strong emphasis on high academic achievement. The Curriculum provided encourages every child, at every stage of their learning, to develop their individual talents and particular abilities. It is based on the English National Curriculum which covers Mathematics, English, Science, Computing, History and Geography, and Personal, Social and Health Education, which includes Relationships Education, Music, Physical Education, Art, Design and Technology. Pupils in Key Stage 2 learn a Modern Foreign Language (French). As a Catholic school they also teach Religious Education, using a programme which delivers the content set out by the Bishops Conference of England and Wales.
Early Years Foundation Stage
Play underpins the EYFS. It also underpins learning and all aspects of children’s development. Through play, children develop language skills, their emotions and creativity, social and intellectual skills. For most children their play is natural and spontaneous although some children may need extra help from adults. Play takes place indoors and outdoors and it is in these different environments that children explore and discover their immediate world. It is here they practice new ideas and skills, they take risks, show imagination and solve problems on their own or with others. The role that adults have is crucial. Adults provide time and space and appropriate resources to inspire play and fire children’s imaginations. They observe play and join in when invited, watching and listening before intervening. They value play and provide safe but challenging environments that support and extend learning and development.
Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
The RSE curriculum sits within the PSHE curriculum. However as a faith based school they are aware that any programme which they use must comply with the Catholic Church's teachings. The programme which they are using in school from April 2021 is 'Life to the Full' which is a new online platform, written and resourced with catholic teachings at its foundation. It delivers most of the new content required in the RSE curriculum. Some areas of the Health Education and other discrete content such as citizenship will be planned for and delivered separately. Details for the coverage for both RSHE and PSHE can be found in the curriculum maps.
