Ossett Academy and Sixth Form College is State Secondary school for kids aged 11 to 18 (Gender - Mixed)

The academy has gained a reputation for excellence that is best evidenced in the outcomes that students achieve across all aspects of academy life. The strong tradition of success is built on a firm foundation of strong pastoral care, ensuring a climate for learning that is calm, well ordered and secure, and focused on celebrating every achievement and academic success. Ossett Academy is a dynamic community that promotes enjoyment in learning and extensive opportunities for young people in a warm and friendly environment. The pupils consistently achieve positive outcomes in both their GCSE and A-Level studies. This academic excellence does not happen by accident; it is as a result of the highest expectations of all the pupils, students and staff. They work in partnership with pupils and parents to ensure the very best academic achievements for all. They encourage pupils to have a love for learning. They believe they provide them with the right skills, aptitudes and an appetite for learning that will last for a lifetime.

Curriculum
The curriculum is our central purpose and all that we want for our pupils. To the left, you can access our Accord Curriculum Principles. These principles guide and shape all that they do at subject-level and across all aspects of Academy life.  Below is an overview of the Key Stage 3 curriculum for each subject, which includes support for parents on how they can support their child at home. At the bottom of the page, you will also find information on our Key Stage 4 curriculum, the courses on offer and guidance for Year 9 pupils as they make their choice of subjects to study for their GCSEs in Years 10 and 11.

SEND
Ossett Academy and Sixth Form have an open ethos and they aim to provide a broad and balanced learning experience for all students regardless of Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND). However, they recognise that this has to be within the context of the learning environment. Personal and social education covers all aspects of emotional and social development. The Staff are flexible in responding to issues as and when they arise (e.g. friendship problems, self-esteem issues). Social skills courses are run for identified students, particularly at Key Stage 3.

Things to note

Extra-Curricular
At Ossett Academy, they offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities for all students across Key Stages 3 and 4. Activities take place after school (approximately 2.45 – 4pm). Activities are available across most subject areas; from sporting opportunities to Performing Arts, and ICT clubs. There is something for everyone to get involved in.
