Orchard School & Nursery

Description

Orchard School & Nursery is Independent Primary school in Central Bedfordshire for kids aged 0 to 9 (Gender - Mixed )

The founding of Orchard School and Nursery in 1991 was based on the observations I had of very young children and their 100% enthusiasm for life. From the outset, Orchard School has been designed to nurture that eagerness which exists within all children, keep their ‘why’ questions coming and encourage the ‘how’ - no matter how challenging they are to answer on occasion. Witnessing their irrefutable belief that ‘I can do it’ in the face of many fruitless attempts is humbling to behold, and helping to cultivate that attitude and influence children in taking a fresh look at a problem, encouraging them not to give up and sharing the delight as they relish the emotional rush of success is what makes being part of Orchard School as special today and it was all those years ago.The observations we make enable us to know our children well and we use this information to guide us in the planning for each child’s personalised learning. Every child is different, and one of our key priorities is unearthing the individual strengths, skills, interests and needs of each pupil in our care

Facilities

Nursery
The nursery at Orchard has a long tradition of welcoming children either as a baby or around the time of their second birthday. The next seven to nine years at Orchard affords them a unique opportunity to experience a consistent secure environment in which to grow and achieve. The partnership between home and school is forged at this time and creates an invaluable and fruitful relationship with the wellbeing and happiness of the child at its core.

Curriculum
The school's curriculum is all the planned activities that they organise in order to promote learning and personal growth and development. We follow the national curriculum guidelines, but we are not restricted by them. We seek the highest standards of attainment for all our children. We also value the breadth and balance of the curriculum we provide as well as the 'hidden curriculum' - what children learn from the way they are treated and expected to behave. We encourage the growth of social skills and empathy amongst the children. The relationships that the children develop with each other and with our staff are central to their happiness and lay the best possible foundation for their future.

Things to note

Extra-Curricular Life
The Orchard experience extends beyond the formal school hours, as there is a wide variety of extra-curricular clubs on offer both before and after school, as well as at lunchtimes. We aim to ensure that we cater for all interests and abilities, and the School Council regularly undertake pupil surveys to ensure that there is something for everyone, with new ideas and suggestions regularly being considered.

Enrichment & Trips
School trips are a great way to enjoy a different kind of learning experience outside of the classroom. It brings to life the themed topics of the curriculum and provides hands-on involvement, so important for children of the age of those at Orchard. The day trips include: Standalone Farm, Roald Dahl Museum, Mountfitchet Castle, Woburn Safari Park, Fitzwilliam Museum, Whipsnade Zoo, Natural History Museum
