Our experienced, dedicated and enthusiastic staff provide opportunities for the children which strongly promote creativity and independence of thought; we feel these are essential attributes for a child growing up in the 21st Century.Your child deserves an inspiring environment which values childhood and places learning at the heart of every experience and opportunity; a community that is committed to supporting an exciting journey of discovery and innovation; a culture that cultivates a psychologically safe space for all to flourish and cares deeply about emotional well-being; a curriculum designed to spark academic curiosity and broad enough to identify talents and nurture passions. Is Hurlingham that school? We believe it is and we are proud of our impressive pupils, their achievements and their ambitions.

Facilities

Nursery
Hurlingham Nursery School was incorporated into the Hurlingham family in September 2017. For many years, we have provided a first class education for pupils aged 4 to 11 at the main Hurlingham site on the Putney Bridge Road. We are delighted that, now, we can also provide families with the option of nursery provision for children aged 2 to 4. The nursery school is at our new site in Gwendolen Avenue, Putney. Children may join at any time after their second birthday, and there is a guaranteed offer of place at the main school for all pupils who complete the pre-school year at Hurlingham Nursery. Hurlingham Main School offers a traditional education to students at the end of which pupils move on into senior education post 11+.

Prep
At Hurlingham School, we are proud of our broad and balanced curriculum. We develop our teaching and learning through a respectful but critical approach to UK National Curriculum documentation, placing due emphasis on English, Mathematics and Science whilst enhancing all areas of each and every child’s development by incorporating the arts, sports, languages and technology. All pupils are taught the following subjects:- English, Mathematics, Science, Computing, History, Geography, Religion, Philosophy and Ethics, Personal, Social, Health and Personal Economic Education, Citizenship, including a whole-school programme of community responsibilities such as School Council, Eco-Schools, Charity Coordination and Healthy Schools., Physical Education and Games, including competitive sports, Drama, Music, Art, Design Technology, One or two modern foreign languages. In Reception, all children enjoy preliminary explorations into both French and Spanish. Parents then choose one language for each child to study in greater depth over the course of the subsequent six years. However, pupils who show themselves to be linguistically talented can pick up the second language again when they reach the Upper School.

Things to note

Holiday Club
The Hurlingham Nursery runs for 3 academic terms over a 34 week period which is identical to the Prep School. However, we are aware that some families are in need of additional nursery supervision over the holiday periods. Hence, we also offer an additional 16 weeks of holiday club to allow parents to opt in for specific weeks required, without having to financially commit to a full 50 weeks a year (with the exception of the 2-week period over Christmas and Bank holidays outside this period).

Co Curricular Clubs
Here at Hurlingham School they are passionate about providing a holistic education. Extra-curricular activities are very important for a child’s development, as they provide the fundamental skills of critical thinking, teamwork and of course social skills. Extra-curricular activities also allow the children to feel part of many communities and feel a sense of belonging. They have a broad range of clubs on offer for all ages and continue to expand our provision. We use external companies as well as our own specialist staff, making every child’s club experience enjoyable, fun and specialised. We love promoting passion, dedication and commitment amongst our children. Take a look at our club pamphlet and see what adventures await.

Individual Music Lessons
All children from year 1 and above have the opportunity to sign up for one to one instrumental music lessons. They pride ourselves in having excellent working professionals teaching the children of Hurlingham in all instruments across the orchestral spectrum and beyond. Lessons are generally for 30 minutes per week and pupils have many opportunities to perform in spotlight concerts throughout the year. Our specialist instrument teachers lead various ensembles in Woodwind, Brass, Strings and a large ensemble meets on Saturday mornings for years 3-6 (occasionally year 2 pupils join if a little more advanced).
