Welcome to Early Years, which is an incredibly exiting time as your child starts their learning journey in school. Here at Holmwood House, they refer to this stage as Phase 1, and combine the Early Years and Foundation Stage with Year 1. They understand the importance of creating an exciting and engaging curriculum that is based on the interests of your child to help encourage a love of learning. During your child’s Pre-Reception year our aim is to develop their social skills, encourage curiosity and create a desire to learn. It is also a pathway to prepare your child for the start of their Reception year.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
At Holmwood House we firmly believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. Through the broad and varied range of extra-curricular activities and opportunities, they ensure that the pupils gain the chance to express themselves, gain confidence and build self-esteem.In addition to the range of clubs, sports and creative opportunities at Holmwood House, they also provide regular residential trips, visits and outings, which are aimed at stretching our pupils’ minds beyond the classroom and maintaining a lifelong curiosity about the wider world. They are also very pleased with our Les Ambassadeurs Easter course, which allows the pupils in Years 2 to 6 to fully immerse themselves in the French language. Over the Summer holiday they also ensure to provide fun, creative and educational holiday camps for all pupils across the school.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR
At Holmwood House, they believe that pupils thrive in an environment full of opportunities that allows them to explore and discover talents and interests. As well as offering before and after-school care for our youngest pupils, we work closely with external coaches to offer Ballet, Musical Theatre, Tennis and Squash on the school site (or at Lexden Racket and Fitness Club). Children in Reception follow the same activities programme as Pre-Prep. As children grow and progress through the school, the school grows with them. The days become progressively longer and allow us to provide a rich curriculum outside of the classroom as well as in it. Through the holistic approach to education, Holmwood House pupils leave the school as well-rounded individuals, ready for their next stage in life.
