Gust Independent School

Description

At GUST Independent School, they provide a safe and nurturing environment alongside a bespoke curriculum that aims to re-engage pupils with additional needs, SEMH needs and challenging behaviours with their education. The skilled and experienced staff plan and deliver personalised interventions that inspire and empower pupils to achieve their greatest potential through the development of self-worth, community inclusion and positive first hand experiences.

Facilities

  • They are an Independent Special School for children aged 6 - 17 with a variety of additional needs that may otherwise not be met within a mainstream setting. They provide both Primary and Secondary education on our campus within two separate purpose-made facilities.
  • At GUST, they provide a rich and balanced curriculum that is embedded consistently throughout the school, building from the foundations of youngest Primary pupils up to Year 12 pupils who are preparing for adulthood. As a whole school, they follow a thematic approach to learning. Pupil voice is highly regarded as pupils are encouraged to discuss and choose topics and direction for their learning.
  • They place great emphasis on the development of exceptional behaviour and attitude, including a consistently high level of respect for others and a commitment to their education.

Features

Things to note

  • The curriculum provides pupils regular opportunities to develop their self-awareness and self-control, encouraging pupils to develop accountability for their actions. They pride themselves on creating a school environment in which commonalities are identified and celebrated, difference is valued and nurtured, and bullying, harassment and violence are never tolerated.
  • The curriculum extends beyond academic and vocational opportunities as they strive to provide even most disadvantaged pupils with rich experiences and extra-curricular activities that support and enhance the learning taking place in the classrooms. They aim to prepare pupils for life in modern Britain by providing pupils with meaningful opportunities to interact with society, understanding how to be responsible, respectful, active citizens who contribute positively.
