Felsted School an English co-educational day and boarding independent school for kids aged 4 to 18.

Facilities

Felsted Coffee Shop: Not open to parents or the public.

The Village Shop: Certain year groups may visit the Village Shop at set times and must wear a mask.

Staff Facilities:

  • Staff areas are identified and allocated, with their capacities, based on appropriate social distancing.
  • Refreshments are made available in central locations.
  • Staff briefings take place in the LRH (Senior) or Ross Hall (Prep). Pastoral notices are  distributed via electronic bulletins.
  • All administrative staff will work from home where possible

Other Visitors: No other visitors to the school.

Features

Things to note

  • Pupils gain much enjoyment from expert coaching in core sports including Rugby, Hockey, Cricket and Tennis for the boys and Hockey, Netball, Cricket and Tennis for the girls. There are also many opportunities for pupils to try other sports in PE sessions or in co-curricular clubs, including Swimming, Basketball, Squash, Aerobics, Football, Athletics, Golf, Horse Riding, Polo, Badminton amongst others.
  • Music is part of the fabric that makes up Felsted life and has been for many years. Felsted School has broad opportunities for musicians of all types.
  • Felsted has a reputation for drama productions of the very highest quality. Drama overall makes a significant contribution to the co-curricular life of the School as a vehicle for expressive learning. 
  • Felsted pupils are fortunate to have wonderful facilities and specialist teachers to study art as part of the curriculum, a co-curricular activity or as a hobby. All forms of art are studied, from still life drawings and paintings to ceramics and textiles, with help always on hand from an experienced and talented Art Department.Masterpieces are displayed around both the Prep and Senior Schools for all to enjoy.

Admission Details

Pre-Prep (age 4+): If you would like to proceed with an application, they will ask you to register and complete a short online application form, where they ask you to upload a copy of your child’s most recent school report and any other relevant reports, as well as a Pupil Information Form. They will also request a reference from your child’s current school. They carry out informal assessments as part of the class activity. Taster days can be arranged on an individual basis and places offered once this process is complete. 

Prep School (age 7+): Pupils sit entrance assessment papers in:

  • Maths (arithmetic and reasoning)
  • English (writing and reading comprehension)

Prep School (age 11+): Candidates complete the following assessments:

  • Non Verbal Reasoning (to be completed on computer)
  • Maths Reasoning paper (written paper)
  • Maths Arithmetic paper (written paper)
  • English Comprehension paper (written paper)
  • English Writing paper (written paper)

Senior School (age 13+): In the Spring Term of Year 6 or 7 they warmly invite all registered pupils to sit the ISEB Common Pre-Test Assessment, prior to joining Felsted Senior School in Year 9. 

Sixth Form (age 16+): Entry to the Sixth Form is based on a Verbal Reasoning assessment, interview and a confidential report from a student’s current school (an additional mathematics test is requested for potential IB students). For students where English is not their first language, an English assessment is also required.

Scholarships

Scholarships and Mary Skill Awards are available for candidates showing excellence in and commitment to Academic subjects, Music, Art, Sport, Design, Technology & Engineering (DTE) and Drama.

Scholarships can be worth up to 20% off the fees, details of which of which can be found below.

All awards make a student eligible to apply for additional financial support through a means-tested top-up bursary.
