Fairley House School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 5 to 16 (Gender - 5 to 16 )
Children who cannot read and write as well as their peers can feel stupid, lose confidence and self-esteem and give up. Children feel stigmatised when they are withdrawn from class to receive extra help at their existing schools, or feel discouraged when given easier work than their classmates. At Fairley House, we believe the solution is to give your child a level playing field; a school where all the children experience similar difficulties. By succeeding, some for the first time in their schooling, children can rebuild their self-esteem and confidence. It is the aim that most children return successfully to a mainstream environment. Time and again I have seen the combination of insightful assessment, individual teaching and specialised therapy work its magic on our children. Through this, the trajectory of their lives is altered. What once seemed impossible is no longer so. Having worked for more than fifteen years in the field of dyslexia and dyspraxia, I understand just how wonderful that breakthrough is for parents and children alike.
CURRICULUM
The curriculum is dynamic, creative and relevant while still ensuring that children learn key skills. They teach all National Curriculum subjects through our own Fairley House (FHS) schemes of work. Occupational and Speech and Language Therapy play a key role in teaching and learning at FHS, and our schemes of work incorporate close links between subjects.During the year the children experience a variety of theme days. These incorporate a range of visitors and diverse, exciting experiences for children. Recent activities have included World Book Week, Maths Day, Victorian Day and Remembrance Day. Such days are used to bring the curriculum to life.
KEY STAGE 4 AT FAIRLEY HOUSE
Fairley House School provides specialist support to students all the way until the end of Year 11. This is particularly beneficial for those finding transition challenging who will continue to benefit from specialist teaching and integrated therapy. We have a strong focus on the core subjects of English and Mathematics, allowing additional time to cover these areas. The core subjects will be balanced with a variety of other subjects which will vary from year to year depending upon interest and demand.
Performing Arts
All children at Fairley House have weekly Music and Drama lessons. The approach is multisensory and the aim is to instil a sense of enjoyment in both of these subjects. Children are given the freedom to express their creativity in fun and imaginative ways, through the medium of song, dance and performance.
Physical Education
Physical Education (PE) is a compulsory subject from Year 2 to Year 11. Lessons develop teamwork, cooperation, resilience, determination, loyalty and creativity. Opportunities for physical challenge, analysis and evaluation of performance and the development of personal fitness levels feature strongly within lessons. These activities provide pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead healthy, active lifestyles.
Extracurricular Clubs
Clubs provide opportunities for pupils to try new activities, develop skills based on their interests and socialise with other pupils. At Fairley House, we have a range of sport-based, arts-based and skill-based clubs and activities, at both lunchtimes and after-school, which are run by Fairley House staff and external experts. After-school clubs run on a Tuesday and Thursday and operate from home time until 4:30pm. Each term there is a different selection of clubs to enrol in.
