Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School is a State Secondary School for kids aged 11 to 18 (Gender - Mixed)
Chatham House and Clarendon House have a long history of providing high quality education in Thanet. Generations of young people have flourished at the two schools and in due course many have chosen to send their own children to Chatham & Clarendon. The school continues to move with the times, embracing new approaches to learning, technology and developing a progressive, outward-looking curriculum, preparing our students well for the inevitable challenges of change which the 21st century will bring. Choosing the right school – the school which is right for the individual child – is one of the most important decisions you will ever have to make. Whenever we ask prospective parents what they want from a school for their children, they tell them that above all they want their children to be safe, happy and successful. They believe that is a happy and supportive school with a dedicated staff focused on providing the best for your children and getting the best from them, a school which achieves high standards.
KS3 Curriculum
The intent of the KS3 curriculum at CCGS is to offer a broad, diverse range of opportunities for all students. They offer a wide range of subjects across the three-year programme which includes strong Ebacc and creative elements. The curriculum encourages and supports personal and social development, offering varied experiences inside and outside of the classroom setting as a mechanism to promote cultural capital and social mobility.
KS4 Curriculum
At GCSE, students continue to follow a broad, balanced and diverse curriculum over a two-year programme, that prepares them for their chosen post-16 pathway - either A levels, further education and/or employment. Students are then able to choose four other subjects which must include a Language (French or Spanish) and a Humanity (Geography, History or RS). In order to encourage students to follow a broad and balanced curriculum, we strongly recommend that students choose a creative subject as their 3rd option. The 4th subject is therefore a free choice for students (see GCSE Options page for more information). In addition to this, all students have one games lesson per week.
6th Form – (CCVi)
After GCSEs, the choice of Level 3 courses is considerable. Advice and guidance are vital for students to achieve their absolute best. We have an excellent team offering advice and guidance who will endeavour to give each student a bespoke service throughout their time in the Sixth Form. They offer a wide range of traditional academic subjects at A-level and also carefully selected vocational courses. They will also be creating an exciting enrichment programme for all Sixth Formers, to develop study skills, to provide opportunities for academic extension through the EPQ programme and to give time for broader engagement and individual development through entrepreneurship, community service, teamwork, sporting programmes and presentation projects, lectures and age-appropriate Personal, Social, Health and Religious Education.

At Chatham & Clarendon Grammar School (CCGS) we aim to support all categories of SEN & D and we have a proven track record of SEN & D students achieving as much or more progress than other students in the school. We have an office and student support rooms at both the Chatham and Clarendon sites and currently have a support team of two full-time Learning Mentors, two part-time Teaching Assistants on the Chatham House site and three full-time Learning Mentors on the Clarendon House site. In addition, the school has a SENDCo Assistant and a full-time member of staff working 1:1 with a student. Student counselling and external agency support such as Porchlight, Emotional Wellbeing Practitioners and counsellors can be accessed via the pastoral team including the Senior Tutors and Heads of House. Sixth form students are able to access support through both offices as well as through the Sixth Form Team.
Clubs and Societies
Following the successes of the Carnegie Shadowing Group and the KS5 Book Club, the English department has introduced a book club for students in Years 7, 8 and 9. The club will provide students with an opportunity to discuss literature in a less formal environment, promoting the importance of reading for pleasure across the key stage. This club is a reading group aimed at Years 7, 8 and 9; joining schools across the country in shadowing the Carnegie Medal, a national award that is given to the best teenage fiction of the year. When the shortlist is publically announced, the group replicates the actual process by judging the quality of the shortlist through group discussions and by posting reviews online. Students can read as many books from the shortlist as they wish.
