4-11 Years

Description

Chard School is Independent Primary school in Somerset for kids aged 4 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

Chard is in many ways a traditional prep school but it also has a unique atmosphere, partly due to the fact that our children learn in a beautiful building rich in historical background, but also the high staff to pupil ratio means they bring out the best in every child. The aim at Chard is to prepare boys and girls not only for their next school at 11 but also for a rapidly changing world and the many challenges that lie ahead. The care and attention that each child receives during their time with us, allied with the breadth of experiences both academic and extra-curricular, ensures children leave us with a sense of achievement, purpose, self-confidence and respect, both for themselves and all those around them. Some of these young people will go on to have careers in fields that are only just opening up, so right from the start we have to be mindful of the need to foster a sense of curiosity to enable these children to make the most of what will be on offer in the not too distant future

Facilities

Chard School provides academic excellence within a happy and caring environment from its Pre-School Nursery to Key Stage 2.  Throughout the school, the needs of the individual child are recognised and catered for by a team of enthusiastic and well-qualified teachers.  Classes are intentionally small, each with their own full and varied timetable.  Although emphasis is placed on the ‘3Rs’ which form the core of the curriculum, the curriculum is extensive and varied and prepares the children well for their future schools, which include Colyton Grammar School and regional Independent Schools. The school is also noted for its strengths in Sport, Music and Drama, and Languages are taught throughout.

Reception children make regular Forest School visits to the Magdalen Project where they feed the animals, pick fruit, collect leaves and natural materials to produce artwork and learn how to make dens. As well as their timetabled Music, Games and Language lessons with the specialist teachers, Reception children also have frequent cookery lessons.
