Things to note

  • Arts and Culture are absolutely central to the ethos and culture of BGS. They are committed to balancing traditional values with excellent forward thinking educational practices. Excellent teaching within the arts is at the heart of what they do and will continue to develop, promote and celebrate. Every pupil has the right to express themselves in a positive way and they encourage them to participate in a wide range of extra, cross and co-curricular activities through arts and culture which impacts all areas of school, so much they have embedded this in to the ten school strategic aims.
  • Music infuses every aspect of Schools and is an integral part of every day. Whether it be performances in assembly, performing at a community event or taking part in one of the plentiful concerts that fill our school calendar. Bury Grammar School’s Music Department values all, whatever their experience and whatever style of music they are interested in and encourages them on their musical journey. They aim to develop the potential of every pupil, no matter what their ability. Pupils with musical talent are encouraged by the whole school community to flourish and to achieve great things. The emphasis is firmly placed on diversity and versatility, which is evident in the varied and challenging music enrichment programme both within and outside of school.
  • Sport, physical activity and wellbeing is an important part of the wider education offered at Bury Grammar Schools with an expansive range of sports on offer for all pupils, of all abilities. BGS teams play hundreds of fixtures per year in competitive sports, but they are also passionate about developing a range of sports and activities designed to increase participation and a lifelong love for sport.

Scholarships

Bury Grammar Schools is pleased to offer a number of Scholarships in a number of fields aimed at recognising gifted and talented pupils. Scholarships are offered to pupils entering the Senior Schools and students entering the Sixth Form. Scholarships are awarded to encourage pupils to develop their particular talent and to play a leading role inspiring younger children in the same field. Whilst BGS Scholarships do carry a small monetary value that is given to the pupil, their true purpose is to recognise excellence and they are not a means of fee-assistance. Scholarships are awarded to pupils who they feel have the potential to excel and play a leading role in school. Click on the links below for more information:
