Prestwich Preparatory School

2-11 Years

Description

Prestwich Preparatory School is Independent Primary school in Bury for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Mixed).

Prestwich Preparatory School was established in 1977 by Estelle Friesner to cater for the educational requirements of her then 9 year old son. She recognised that for those parents wishing their children to have a head start at senior school aged 11 a rigorous grounding in the 3Rs was essential. Since then, they still place great emphasis on a good educational grounding but they also focus on the childrens’ pastoral care as well as computer studies, sports, games, history, geography, science and arts and crafts. At heart, however, PPS is still a small private school with a lovely nurturing, family atmosphere whose primary goal is to secure places for our children at one of the local Grammar Schools or to entry into a top stream of a local state funded school.

Facilities

Early Years
The Early Years Unit of Friesner Education is situated within the school building. The proximity to Heaton Park allows us to provide the children with a range of outdoor experiences, playing with small PE equipment, nature walks, visiting the farm, all of which enhance our tried and tested curriculum. The fenced garden area allows us to experience and enjoy outdoor play on a regular basis with access to a variety of small play equipment as well as resources that compliment and deliver areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. They encourage children to come well prepared with wellingtons and coats as well as sun cream and hats so they may take them out as much as possible.

Early Years Unit 2-3 Years
Prestwich Prep Nursery offer a warm welcome in a safe, secure environment in which children grow to become confident able students. The qualified and experienced staff are available daily to discuss your child’s progress, needs and daily activities. For more detailed discussion they invite parents to make an appointment at a mutually convenient time. The play area allows the children to move around freely, independently selecting toys to play with as well as participating in focussed activities with staff members. Staff plan activities which will enhance your child’s development and give them opportunities for new experiences and enjoyment. The activities fulfil the criteria set out in the Early Years Foundation Curriculum and a daily diary enables you to keep abreast of your child’s day and make comments if you wish to do so.

Foundation Stage 3-4 Years
Following their third birthday, children make the transition into the Prep School pre-school. The pre-school classroom prepares children for reception with a wide range of activities and methods being employed to promote areas of learning within the Foundation Curriculum. In practice they work with small groups of children to encourage them to develop the fundamental skills of spoken a written communication, reading and number. The child’s verbal and physical skills are developed together with the acquisition of factual information and social awareness.
