Brooke Priory School is Independent Primary school in Rutland for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
The early years of your child’s education are vital, providing the essential foundation for future life. Brooke Priory sets out to educate its children in the broadest possible way. Academic excellence will always be the highest priority, but education must also include a rich diet of music, art, drama and sports. Above all, school must be enjoyable and a place to foster friendships.Outdoor learning is a core element of our ethos at Brooke Priory. Some schools see Forest School as a modern, innovative educational approach. At Brooke, it has been at the heart of our learning since the school’s inception. Quite simply put, it is Brooke Priory. The children regularly enjoy Brooke Priory “Welly Days” at the rural site of the original school to take part in stimulating, engaging and hands-on activities. Through orienteering, den building, wood carving, pond-dipping, wild art and so much more, the pupils develop their physical, personal, social and emotional skills.
Nursery & Pre-School
The nursery and pre-school spend lots of time together although each group have their own adult led activities and routines. Equal importance and value is placed on the children learning from each other as well as from adults. The children in pre-school develop into great role models, showing patience and kindness to help nurture their younger peers; whilst the younger nursery children can develop in confidence in many areas as they grow and develop. The nursery and pre-school day begins at 8.30am and ends at 3.30pm with the option for a collection after lunchtime at 1.15pm if agreed in advance. The children are also able to attend the before and after school care sessions available to all children across Brooke Priory for those parents who require extra wrap around care. Hot lunches are provided by The Farm Kitchen and these can be ordered online in advance.
Kindergarten
Children join the Kindergarten when they are 4 years old. The boys and girls who move up from our pre-school find it a smooth transition and those who join us for the first time are soon comfortable in our warm, caring environment. They recognise this is an important milestone and change to routine for many children, and therefore they offer the choice to ease gently in to full-time hours by giving two optional half day (morning) sessions in the Autumn Term and one half day in the Spring Term as well as the option to join as full time straight away.
Pre-Prep
The Pre Prep is made up of Form I and II. They cover the Key Stage 1 curriculum. Children move seamlessly from the Kindergarten to Form I, which is located nearby. They relish their increased independence and confidently move around school with their teacher.Swimming lessons are enjoyed every week. Whilst they remain in their own classroom, they may have some lessons with a different teacher. Music becomes part of their timetable and Form II are able to join the Junior Choir.
Prep School
The Prep department is structured to ensure that the changing needs of the children are met as they progress up through the school. This has created a warm and vibrant environment where children are encouraged and supported to be ‘the best that they can be’.Children enter the Prep department when they are seven years old, typically moving up from our Pre-Prep. However, pupils new to the school find that the atmosphere we cultivate means that they settle in quickly and make many new friends. The small class sizes result in a deeper understanding between pupils and their form teachers, keeping the children’s happiness and well-being at the very heart of everything they do.
Sport & P.E.
Sport enjoys a pre-eminent role in life at Brooke Priory and is a crucial vehicle in the delivery of the School Values. Confidence, teamwork, resilience, respectfulness and honesty are all developed on the sports pitches, not to mention the visible pride and joy of pulling on the school’s jersey each Wednesday. We offer games lessons twice-a-week in the Prep School, alongside their weekly swimming, tennis, P.E. lessons and fixtures.
Drama at Brooke Priory School
From the Nativity plays in Reception, drama starts at a young age – Christmas sees several productions in Pre-Prep, and parents are regularly amazed at the standard of performance. The academic year climaxes with the Form VI production; an all-singing, all-dancing production to rival the best of the West End. They take an inclusive approach to drama, with pupils having the opportunity to take part in plays or musicals throughout the year. All are encouraged to have speaking roles, and pupils are often inspired to develop an interest in both lighting and staging of performances, and to contribute to the writing of some scripts. We are lucky to have a fully equipped theatre within school, as well as excellent staff who, like the pupils, revel in the limelight. The prep form and nativity productions are always a calendar highlight!
Music
Music is an integral part of life at Brooke Priory, with specialist subject teaching ensuring that all pupils receive the highest possible standard of music education. Curriculum music is an opportunity for children to experience a wide variety of musical styles; listen, compose and perform together to develop confidence and a life-long love of music. All pupils throughout the school have a weekly class music lesson built into their timetable. Whole class instrumental lessons in Forms I, II and IV mean that every child can experience the joy of learning a musical instrument, as well the related skills of listening, performing with others and musical discipline. Prep pupils build on the skills learned further down the school, learning to use more advanced musical vocabulary and further developing their composing and performing skills. Pupils explore a wide variety of musical genres and their cultural and social contexts.
Clubs
At Brooke Priory they offer a wide range of after school extra-curricular activities ranging from maths to Lego; from cookery to Choi Kwang Do. These clubs give pupils the opportunity to experience new activities with their friends, broadening their horizons and giving them an idea of which hobbies, they would perhaps like to pursue further.
