Bishopsgate School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 3 to 14 (Gender - 3 to 14 )
A very warm welcome to Bishopsgate School. Bishopsgate is undoubtedly a vibrant and exciting school where childhood is nurtured and celebrated against the backdrop of outstanding pastoral care. They are a place where children are free to enjoy their childhood, can begin to develop lifelong academic, artistic, sporting and cultural passions and are prepared for life at senior school and beyond.Academic results at Bishopsgate are continually outstanding and the scholarship results speak for themselves. Academic success is of course a priority, but at Bishopsgate, they pride ourselves on educating the whole child. They teach them how to think by allowing them the space and the time to enjoy being children, by creating opportunities for each and every one of them to find what makes them tick and nurturing the qualities of character that will stand the test of time.
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) - Nursery & Reception
The Early Years programme at Bishopsgate strives to offer a positive and enriched start to every child’s learning journey. In an environment enriched by apparatus and resources designed to act as a catalyst for learning, the Early Years team will enable the children to feel confident and able to approach learning in their own unique way.The learning environment is designed to allow our skilled practitioners to follow the children’s interests, ensuring the children feel valued and continue to develop their thirst for learning. This holistic approach allows the children to develop at their own pace and therefore offers limitless learning opportunities. By following an ‘in the moment’ planning structure, we have the flexibility to follow individual interests; this is then supported by discretely taught sessions in maths, phonics and writing.
Years 1 and 2
The Lower School experience primarily focuses on developing the building blocks for success. The children explore the world around them and in doing so, develop their curiosity, independence and their ability to communicate.Building on their experience in Nursery and Reception, where our ‘in the moment’ approach to planning encourages the children to think for themselves and to develop their questioning skills, they are then challenged in Year 1 and 2 to:Apply their curiosity to the topic, Follow their own line of enquiry, Become a problem solver, Find answers through exploring different possibilities
Years 3 and 4
Building positive teacher-pupil relationships is paramount to our pedagogy and an effective step to establish a positive climate in the classroom and a happy learning environment. They believe that they know the pupils well and have a solid understanding of what each child enjoys, both inside and outside of Bishopsgate. This stands them in great stead for gaining their respect and time when teaching the valuable tools for success.Following this, the primary objective is to build upon the skills and aptitudes that have been learnt already and prepare the children for life in the Upper School with a nurturing and consistent approach. With an approach to teaching and learning through memorable and fun-filled experiences, they believe that in this way, the children retain the necessary knowledge and skills to flourish on their journey through Bishopsgate and beyond.
Years 5 and 6
The form tutor role is key in keeping a close overview of the children’s personal progress and is the first point of contact for all academic and pastoral matters. Alongside a broad and dynamic curriculum, the children are prepared carefully for senior school transfers at ages 11 and 13. The School has an outstanding record of success in senior school entrance examinations.
Years 7 and 8
At the core of the programme in Years 7 and 8 is the vast array of opportunities to develop character and the ability to lead and collaborate with others. Years 7 and 8 pupils are placed within mixed vertical tutor groups. Each year group follows their own timetable for academic lessons and the groups join together for form time, PSHEE and other senior activities. This provides an opportunity for pupils to support and learn from each other.
Music
Music at Bishopsgate is inspiring, challenging and vigorous. From the time that a child enters the school, they instil a love of music and the opportunities to perform are endless. From our large scale events such as the annual Carol Concert and Summer Arts Festival, to our smaller, more intimate Chapel Recitals and assembly performances, there are opportunities for all. Music has the power to help young people develop a myriad of skills whilst increasing their self confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
Drama
The aim of Drama at Bishopsgate is to establish and maintain a culture of mass participation and enjoyment of performance. This helps children to find their confidence and develop their skills in regards to public speaking, verse recital and acting. Drama is also often used as a teaching tool which enables pupils to delve more deeply into the emotional aspects of a topic they are studying. We nurture the invaluable skill of delivering informative, engaging and stimulating presentations.
Art
The goal of art education at Bishopsgate is to bring out the creative, expressive and aesthetic potential of each child and to promote the attitudes, thinking and discipline necessary for all types of learning. The Art Department encourages positive responses to new ideas and respect for individual differences by fostering: respect for oneself and one's own work, respect for others and their work and respect for other cultures and their art.
Design Technology
At Bishopsgate, DT is firmly ensconced across all year groups. From muddling with mud in Nursery and Reception, to printing complex 3D structures in the Upper School, children here dream, design and create using a huge variety of mediums, tools and machinery. In the Middle and Upper School, DT is taught in a superbly resourced classroom that is the envy of many other schools. The recently purchased 3D printer is continuously busy, as is the laser cutter; often operated by the children themselves.
Sport
A broad sports programme encourages children to embrace their full potential and prepare for the physical demands of life. A wide range of sports is played and all children are given opportunities to represent the school in a competitive context.Sport is an essential part of the educationthey offer at Bishopsgate School and believe it is imperative to the holistic development of all our children. Sport also helps to develop skills such as sportsmanship, collaboration, leadership and physical literacy.
