Bishop Walsh Catholic School benefits from having an excellent teaching and support staff team.  The staff are very hardworking and talented, always demonstrating exceptional care and commitment to the students.  They also enjoy a very strong partnership with the family of primaries and another secondary school, the links with parishes are strong, as is the partnership with other Diocesan schools.  They are also delighted to be part of the St John Paul II Multi Academy and they work closely with the other schools in the academy to ensure that every child in the care has an excellent education and many opportunities to develop and succeed. At Bishop Walsh parents can be guaranteed that the staff will work hard for children under their care so that they will leave the school with the knowledge and skills to reflect and act on gospel values, to flourish in our society, concerned for others before themselves.

Facilities

Key Stage 3 (Year 7 & 8)
All subjects promote a knowledge approach to the curriculum. The knowledge students are expected to know is specified in all subjects. This knowledge forms the foundations for curriculum planning including the schemes of work, the knowledge organisers, home learning and assessments. They will not cover GCSE material, or use GCSE style assessment, in Years 7 or 8 as they believe this reduces the quality of the provision. A knowledge-based approach to the curriculum is accessible for all learners and therefore they do not expect to see differentiated tasks or objectives in lessons. Instead they keep scaffolding in place for longer whilst maintaining our high standards so that the students can master the essential elements of the curriculum.

Key Stage 4 (Year 10 & 11)
At Key Stage 4 all our students study the core academic subjects at GCSE: RE, English, English Literature, mathematics and combined science. Achieving good passes in these subjects keep students’ options open, and allow them to enter the widest ranges of careers and university courses. At Key Stage 4 students study a minimum of 9 subjects: the core academic subjects, and three option subjects. This is both academically challenging as well as offering a wide breadth of study.  Pupils can opt to study three from the following GCSE subjects: separate science, history, geography, French, Spanish, computer science, art, media, food, PE, business studies, music, fashion and drama. Additionally, pupils can opt to study from the following Level 2 vocational qualifications: child development, information technology & business studies

SEND
Bishop Walsh Catholic School follows statutory guidance laid down in the Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Disability Code of Practice: 0 to 25 years.
