Complementing the PE curriculum is a programme of Games aimed at children of all abilities. High quality coaching and fixtures take place across a wide range of sports at Birkdale’s dedicated sports ground at Castle Dyke.
They encourage as many pupils as possible to learn an instrument on a one-to-one basis with a qualified specialist. A large team of well-qualified peripatetic teachers give lessons on a wide range of instruments.
In addition to providing weekly lessons. They also offer numerous extra-curricular activities. A weekly Prep 1 and 2 club and a Prep 3 and 4 club run, which offer a chance to play a variety of games; developing all of the important performing skills using the voice, face and body language.
The school organises a wide variety of trips throughout the school year. These are an important part of school life. Pupils in all year groups experience day trips, with Prep 2-4 enjoying residential trips.
In addition to the exciting curriculum, Birkdale pupils have further opportunities to explore and pursue a wide variety of interests through the provision of clubs and societies. As children progress through their school years these clubs and societies become greater in number and scope, enabling everyone to encounter a breadth of opportunities.
For entry to the school at any age you will need to register your child as a prospective pupil. This includes anyone wishing to sit the 11+ Entrance Test. In order to do this, please complete the Registration Form and include the fee of £50. Once a place has been offered you will be asked to pay a further £250 deposit to accept the place. Scholarships
Academic, Music and Sports Scholarship are available for pupils entering S1 (Y7) of the Senior School and for pupils entering the Sixth Form in September 2021.
11+ Scholarships:
Academic – no application required as entry is by invitation following the 11+ Entrance Test
Means-tested Bursary funding: A limited amount of means-tested bursary funding is available for allocation to pupils joining the school for S1 (Y7) or Sixth Form who strongly demonstrate that they would benefit from a Birkdale education; but for whom full fee payment would be prohibitive.
