Description

Barfield Prep School is Independent Primary school in Surrey for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

They aim to give our children a complete educational experience, with outstanding academic teaching in an excellent pastoral setting, and to prepare them fully for the senior school of their choice. Our central belief is that our children should be happy and positively challenged in what they do, and they will achieve to very high levels. All of the efforts here at Barfield go into creating an environment where children are allowed to be children and their early educational experience is one of excitement, exploration and intrigue. Our family ethos ensures that we are able to build strong relationships between school and home, and children know exactly where to turn if they hit a bump in the road. Lovely small class sizes, coupled with a wonderful team of staff, provides the perfect platform for each child to flourish and individuality is not only valued but encouraged.  We see our role as providing opportunities and opening doors for the children, both inside and outside of the classroom, and then giving them the confidence to try new things along the way. We celebrate the small things on a daily basis, as it is these victories which puts air in their balloons and makes them realise what they are capable of.

Facilities

Nursery
The Nursery offers a home from home environment and small class sizes ensure the Nursery staff know the children (and their families) really well and are able to nurture and encourage them. The individual needs of each child are met through targeted play based learning. Barfield Nursery is a private nursery  which is part of Barfield Prep School in Farnham, Surrey. The Nursery provides a gentle introduction to school life. We welcome children into our nursery as soon as they turn two.  The Hatchlings (2 year olds), Owlets (2-3 year olds) and Owls (3-4 year olds) are very much a part of the school and  make full use of Barfield’s extensive grounds with access to a wide range of outdoor learning experiences.  The children grow plants and vegetables in the school garden and the Nursery Dig area, where they are free to explore and develop their green fingers!

Lower School
Lower School pupils are taught through an exciting, broad and innovative curriculum that stimulates and inspires their curious minds. Class sizes are small and the children grow by developing their knowledge both inside and outside the classroom. With access to all school facilities and specialist teachers we offer a wide breadth of subjects including English, Maths, Science, ICT, French, PE Adventure and Life Skills.  Learning Support Staff are on hand to assist those pupils who might require any additional support.

Features

Things to note

Toddler Walk In The Woods
Open to all, the group meets approximately every fortnight on a Wednesday during term time in the Barfield woods. The children enjoy a variety of activities including Bug Hunting, Bark Rubbing, Stories & Adventures and Nature Art all washed down with a hot chocolate around the log circle.

Sport
With our extensive grounds, woodland, pitches and swimming pool, Barfield pupils experience a multitude of sports through curriculum lessons and after school clubs. We promote a love and enthusiasm for all sports and the children are given the opportunity to develop their own individual strengths, and represent Barfield to compete against other schools from Year 3 onwards. We have full use of all of the Three Peaks facilities, building on their extended range of skills, outside of the usual sports, that the children are able to develop over their time at Barfield.

The Arts
Creativity is openly encouraged in all subjects at Barfield, and none more so than in the Arts. Whether it is a child presenting their very own personal interpretation of a Space portrait in Art, or a pneumatic truck in Design Technology, the children will all be encouraged to develop their imagination and creative skills. Through the Drama & Music programmes on offer the children also enjoy the opportunity to perform their pieces in front of friends and family at regular intervals.

Co-Curricular Activities
In addition to the wide curriculum that the children take part in during the day, they are also invited to extend their activities to after school clubs. In the school aims they describe how we strive to deliver a curriculum which prides itself on balance, where our children understand and respect the value of academic rigour, but equally the importance of being creative and the acquisition of skills that are learnt outside of the traditional classroom. Our Co-Curricular Activity programme plays an important part in enabling us to work towards these aims. It does so by extending the curriculum beyond that which is taught in timetabled sessions.
