Infants Curriculum
Children start Infants in Reception class, which is the final year of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The focus in this year is for children to become confident in early numeracy, foster a love of reading, learn to write and continue to develop social skills and an understanding of the world around them. Led by a qualified teacher and higher level teaching assistant, children in Reception receive a truly excellent start to their school education and are happy, capable and confident.
Juniors Curriculum
This is a time of real growth and development, where children build on their skills and experiences in all areas of the curriculum. In the Lower Juniors, Year 3 and 4 children continue to study subjects through themes which link learning across curriculum areas and as children move into the Upper Juniors classes; Year 5 and 6, subject teaching is progressively introduced.Junior children use our STEM suite and other facilities as part of their daily learning and thrive on the variety of their curriculum. Deputy head teacher of the Private School in Preston, Mr Wood, works with groups of children who either need additional support or are achieving highly academically and require further development in different subject areas. Specialist teaching is provided in Music, Outdoor Education, Keyboard, Modern Foreign Languages, Gardening and Sports.

Extra Curricular and Trips
Providing children with the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills beyond the classroom is a key part of the ethos at Ashbridge and they do this by offering a wide variety of extra-curricular clubs and enrichment activities. There are a large number of before and after school clubs available including sports, arts and crafts, music and dance, business enterprise, academic and outdoor activities. Many of the clubs are included within fees but those which require external teachers are chargeable. A number of children choose to learn a musical instrument at school and our skilled team of peripatetic teachers offer tuition in piano, violin, drums, keyboard and singing. In the Juniors all children learn keyboard and a brass instrument as part of their curriculum.
Sport
A strong fixtures programme is in place in the school and children compete in a wide variety of sports including football, tag rugby, swimming, hockey, netball, tennis, athletics and tri golf. We are members of the School Sports Partnership in Lancashire and also take part in numerous IAPS events across the region as well as hosting events here at Ashbridge
Music and Drama
Children take part in a variety of assemblies and concerts throughout the year and all children from Year 2 to Year 6 are entered into the York Academy of Speech and Drama Exams, involving reading aloud, reciting poetry and delivering presentations they have created. In 2021, 54% of the children achieved the highest grade possible.
