All Hallows School

Cranmore Hall, East Cranmore, Shepton Mallet BA4 4SF, United Kingdom
3-13 Years

Description

All Hallows School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 3 to 13 (Gender - 3 to 13 )

At  All Hallows they believe they are doing something very distinctive: the children's happiness and wellbeing underpin everything we do and everything else flows from that. As a result of the approach, from the nursery to the 'top of the tree', the girls and boys develop into something very special - children who love learning, give their very best and know who they are. Outstanding opportunities lie both inside and outside the classroom - passionate and engaging class teaching drives our academic life, as well as outdoor learning in our nine-acre Forest School, an extensive Sports programme and a state of the art Creative Centre for Art and Design. At All Hallows, in addition to more measurable academic products of schooling, they work with parents and teachers to promote more ethereal educational outcomes, such as long-term wellbeing, a sense of self, a moral compass, a degree of resilience, preparation for some aspects of work and even an appreciation for philosophy, culture, creativity, and civilisation.

Facilities

Nursery and Reception EYFS
The All Hallows Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Nursery and Reception classes occupy a fabulous position, side by side, in the heart of the school.  With dedicated indoor and outdoor space, our children enjoy a happy, calm and safe environment which is also stimulating and fun. The class sizes are small, really supporting the children's early learning and needs, allowing them to flourish. Making the most of the opportunities that arise by being part of a prep school, the children benefit from access to specialist teaching staff for subjects such as Music, Art, Forest School, Sports and Activities as well as access to the prep school resources and facilities.  These include our nine-acre onsite woodland for our Forest School, the LTA Tennis Academy, our Creative Design Centre, our swimming pool with a retractable cover and as well as music and other sports facilities.

Junior Department
In the Junior Department, encompassing Years 1 to 4, we embrace a hands-on approach to our learning, building on the child-centred foundations set in the Early Years.  They strive to engage our children, foster their strengths and challenge each individual to be the very best that they can be.In keeping with our school ethos - to encourage learning, independence of thought and the cultivation of self-belief, skill, wisdom and curiosity - they believe a thematic curriculum (one where the different elements of the children’s learning centre around a common topic) offers the ideal platform.

Years 5 and 6
Unburdened by the need to prepare for SATs, our children are free to learn without the pressure of external exams in Years 5 and 6.  Instead, the children are informally assessed at regular intervals and revision takes place within the classroom, without a formal exam in mind.  Not only does this allow for better learning, but teachers are more informed of progress and are able to address any gaps needing attention more quickly. Year 5 is an exciting time for the children at All Hallows as they move into the middle part of the school, often welcoming in children who have completed their time at one of the local First Schools or who have moved to the area.

Features

Things to note

Sport & Physical Education
Sport and physical education (PE) are an integral part of life for all at All Hallows. They are guided by the simple ethos that by introducing children to a wide range of team sports and individual events, they hope to instil a love of taking exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle. They are fortunate to have extensive facilities which are set against the stunning backdrop of the Somerset countryside that surrounds them.  Whether your child is a potential sports scholar, a reluctant participant or somewhere in between, they aim to support and encourage them to develop into physically literate, resilient, creative and skilled individuals

Art
The thriving and vibrant Art Department in the bright and airy purpose-built studio is a very exciting place to be. In an art lesson. The goal is to have fun and to inspire every pupil through interesting and creative experiences and to explore their imagination whilst developing an understanding of art. They aim to build the children’s confidence and to give them skills that are integral to all subjects.

Drama
Throughout their time at All Hallows children are encouraged and given opportunities to stand on stage and experience performing in front of others. Equipped with sophisticated sound and lighting systems, our Chapel transforms into an ideal setting for various different plays and musicals. This journey begins in the Junior Department where children from Nursery to Year 2 take part in our annual Nativity. Pupils in Year 3 and 4 join them for our Harvest Festival and Mother’s Day celebrations.

Activities and Enrichment
The extensive activities and enrichment programme is designed to allow the children to try their hand at something completely different, as well as giving them the opportunity to extend themselves in areas of the curriculum where they may have a particular passion, such as creative design or tennis.  The activities and enrichment programme runs during break times, after school and sometimes even before school during the week. This is complemented by our Saturday Morning Enrichment which is an optional programme for pupils in Years 6 to 8.
