Welcome to Worcester Cathedral has been a place of Christian worship and prayer for fourteen centuries. The present building was begun in 1084 and is dedicated to Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Worcester Cathedral is one of England's loveliest cathedrals. It stands majestically overlooking the River Severn, close to the city centre. It has been a place of prayer and worship for fourteen centuries. The Cathedral's attractions include King John's tomb, Prince Arthur's Chantry, St Wulfstan's Norman Crypt, medieval cloisters, magnificent Victorian stained glass and examples of every period of early English architecture from 11th to late 14th Century.

Features

  • Daily Tours: We offer General Daily Tours at 11am and 2.30pm Monday to Saturday. These tours of the Cathedral start from the Welcome area near the Cathedral entrance and can be purchased on arrival. 
  • Tower Climbs/Tower on the Hour: Tower Climbs are available at weekends and school holidays, subject to weather and availability. Tickets are available to purchase from the Welcome Desk on arrival.
  • Library Tours: Enjoy a tour of our stunning Medieval library by filling in the form on the library.
  • Pilgrimage/Parish and Diocesan Visits: These include a general, historical, or spiritual tour of the Cathedral, and can combine with a special blessing or service. 
  • Worship: The regular worship of God is the foundation of everything we do in Worcester Cathedral. Worcester Cathedral has been a place of Christian worship for fourteen centuries. We welcome visitors of all faiths and no faith and all are invited to attend our services.
  • Diocese of Worcester: The Cathedral Church of Christ & the Blessed Mary the Virgin, of Worcester is the mother church of the Diocese of Worcester and the seat of the Bishop of Worcester. 
  • Family Activities: We regularly offer FREE activities for children and families during the school holidays. These are usually suitable for Primary and Pre-School aged children unless specified otherwise. Past activities include rock and fossil craft days, Tudor themed activities, making a clay gargoyle, stained glass pictures, brass rubbings, designing Easter eggs and fishing games.

Facilities

  • Parking: Worcester Cathedral does not have a car park, however there are several car parks within a short distance of the Cathedral. We would recommend parking opposite the Cathedral, in Cathedral Square where there is a pay and display, accessible NCP multi-storey car park.
  • Food & Drinks: The Cafe is situated in the East Cloister opposite the Garth Garden. To access the Café, enter the Cathedral through the main north door, opposite the High Street, and cross the Nave to enter the Cloister. 
  • Toilets: There is a non-gendered accessible toilet off the Cloister. A RADAR key is needed to open the toilet, but spare keys are available from the shop and the Vergers. There is a baby changing facility in this toilet.
  • Dogs: Assistance Dogs are welcome. Pet dogs are invited to enjoy the grounds while on a lead.

  • Cycling: We are proud to be a cycle friendly Cathedral and our new bicycle racks are situated to the left of the main visitor entrance in College Yard and to the rear of the Cathedral on College Green. 
  • Car: Postcode for Sat Nav: WR1 2LA. We are a short 20 minute car journey from Junctions 6 and 7 of the M5 motorway.
  • Public Transport: The Cathedral is located in Worcester City Centre. We are a 10-15 minute walk from Worcester Foregate Street and Shrub Hill Train Stations and Crowngate Street Bus Station.
