Features

  • Boy gallery: Step through the giant chocolate doors (that really do smell of chocolate!) to discover how some of Roald Dahl's childhood experiences inspired his books. Rummage through Roald's school satchel, find out about some school pranks and dress up in Roald's school uniform.
  • Solo gallery: Your chance to see the centrepiece of the Museum, Roald Dahl's Writing Hut. Peek at all the unusual objects Roald kept on hand while he wrote and discover how his real life experience inspired the stories. You can also see some props and costumes from film and tv adaptations, peek in drawers and have a go on the Spark-o-meter.
  • The Story Centre: A room packed with creative activities. Be inspired by Roald Dahl and make up your own rhymes, invent a new character or create some swahsboggling sentences. You can also direct a stop-motion animation, dress us as your favourite Roald Dahl character or take a seat in our replica writing chair - the perfect spot for a photo op.
  • George’s Crafty Kitchen: Take some creative time out and pull up a chair in the George's Crafty Kitchen — you're just in time for Grandma to take her medicine! Pick up some craft sheets and colour, cut and decorate to your heart's content. Add your creation to our wall or take it home with you.
  • Courtyard: Our delightfully secluded courtyard is the perfect place for a bit of fresh air. See if you can spot our life-sized versions of Roald Dahl characters. Pull your favourite pose next to Matilda, or on fair-weather days enjoy a picnic al fresco.
  • Wondrous Woods: A delightfully sensory place to visit complete with trees, sounds and smells. See if you can guess all five Roald Dahl books in the wood, all hinted at through interactive activities. This room is also where storytelling takes place on selected dates.
