Features

  • Things to See & Do:
    • Sensory Garden: The tranquil sensory garden, located between the Playbarn and Farmhouse, offers a peaceful spot to sit, relax, and enjoy the surroundings.
    • Farm Animals: Sacrewell is home to a wide variety of farm animals, from traditional stock such as pigs and sheep to alpacas, supporting rare, heritage, and recovering breeds. Visitors can learn how farming and wildlife coexist in rural England. Key animals include British Landrace pigs, Hill Radnor ewe lambs, Boreray sheep, Golden Guernsey goats, English goats, Crollwitzer and Red Bourbon turkeys, Oxford Sandy and Black pigs, Kunekune pigs, and British Spotted Ponies. Spring brings lively lambs, including orphan Cade lambs, hand-reared on the farm.
    • Watermill & Heritage: The 18th-century watermill, built from Barnack limestone and Collyweston slate, relies on a spring-fed mill pond for power. Fully restored through Heritage Lottery and other funding, the mill allows exploration of four floors showcasing machinery that turns wheat into flour and the life of Victorian millers. The mill house also tells the story of Land Army girls and homefront life during the Second World War.
    • Old Farming Equipment: Historic farm machinery is on display, including a Harry Ferguson TE 20 tractor, a Claas combine harvester, horse-drawn implements, and smaller tools like wooden shovels, scythes, milk churns, and barrels, many made locally in Stamford.
    • Wildlife: The 550-acre estate supports abundant wildlife. Rabbits, badgers, foxes, damselflies, butterflies, buzzards, and red kites are frequently seen, while the mill pond and bird hide host swans, ducks, moorhens, and Canada geese.
    • Playbarn & Indoor Play: The Playbarn offers soft play fun with ball pits, climbing structures, themed zones, and a chicken coop for egg collecting. A mud slide and picnic tables provide additional entertainment and convenience for parents.
    • Outdoor Play Areas: Children can enjoy natural and adventure play areas. The award-winning natural play space includes water play with stepping-stones, bug hunting, and creative exploration. The adventure playground, farmyard-themed, has wooden tractors, elevated walkways, rope tunnels, slides, swings, trampolines, and a sandpit. Activities encourage physical exercise, messy play, and imaginative fun for ages from babies to 12 years.
    • Pooh Sticks: The mill stream and bridge provide a traditional spot to play Pooh sticks, following the rules established in A.A. Milne’s classic stories.
  • Rare Breed & Native Animals
    • Pigs – British Landrace pigs like Larry, Kune Kune pigs, and pot-bellied pigs enjoy grazing, fresh vegetables, and interaction.
    • Cattle – Belted Galloway cattle, including Abigail, Matilda, Cinnamon, Pepper, Tom, and Jerry, graze the paddocks and are friendly and interactive.
    • Equine – Shetland ponies, British Spotted Ponies, and Falabella horses roam the fields, interact with visitors, and are suitable for educational and therapeutic activities.
