Features

  • Riding School: Riding School is open every day, with outdoor lessons taking place from early morning until late evening. Tuition is provided by BHS-trained instructors. Horses and ponies are available for adults and children of all abilities. The school is one of only a few UK riding schools offering lessons for children under the age of four; private lead rein lessons for three-year-olds are available upon enquiry. Lesson prices, booking terms, Riding Farm gift vouchers, and clothing are available and make ideal presents for riders of all ages. Riding sessions can also be booked as social or corporate team-building activities.
  • Lessons: Private (one rider), semi-private (two riders), and group lessons are offered, with durations of either half an hour or one hour. Lessons cover flatwork, jumping, or a combination of both, depending on the rider’s grade.
  • Grading System: A bespoke grading system is in place for Riding School and livery clients. All new clients start with a Graded Assessment to ensure an appropriate ride for their ability. Complete beginners start at Grade 0 on the lead rein and progress through assessments up to Grade 6, for riders capable of jumping a course of show jumps set at 80cm. Rosettes are awarded for all successful assessments from Grade 1 onwards, with specially-tailored events available for all grades. Horses and ponies are graded according to the same system and regularly re-graded to match riders with suitable mounts.
  • Hacking: Riders who have passed a Riding Farm Hacking Assessment can participate in escorted private, semi-private, and group hacks on the 80-acre site.
  • Road Hacking: Liveries may take part in road hacks once a hacking assessment has been completed. Options include short road hacks, long woodland hacks, and the popular group hack on Saturdays, often featuring an ice cream stop during summer.
  • Show Jumping: In addition to standard private or group show jumping lessons, specialist sessions are offered with Sally Gosling, a level 2 coach and BHSAI, who competes at affiliated shows nationally.
  • Stable Management: Stable management sessions are available on a private or group basis. The Riding Farm cross country and hacking course is available to hire for current liveries and loaners who have passed the Hacking Assessment. Completion of the annual Hacking Disclaimer form is required. Liveries and loaners must book with reception before using the hacking facility. Both the cross country and hacking facilities are open every day throughout the summer months.
  • Brownies & Cubs Rider/Equestrian Activity Badges: Brownies and Cubs can complete Rider and Equestrian Activity Badges at Riding Farm. Entire packs can be accommodated at once. Following the guidelines set by Girl Guiding and Scouts, participants are coached in small groups to ensure individual attention. Children learn how to dress safely for riding, catch and lead a pony, mount and dismount correctly, ride a quiet pony, provide basic pony care, and identify parts of the saddle, bridle, and horse.
