A tour of Grade II listed Quex House, former home of the Powell-Cotton's is also included in your admission ticket. Quex Gardens, spanning 7 acres and featuring a walled garden and woodland walk is open throughout the day. The perfect place for a picnic! Free tours of Quex House and Museum Highlights run throughout the day and there is a programme of exciting events & activities throughout the year.

What to see

The majority of the Museum's collections originate from the African and Asian continents. This includes over 20,000 world-culture objects, 6500 mammal specimens, and fine and decorative arts. They also hold approximately 8,000 archaeological finds from the Thanet coastline and an archive of supportive material including over 30,000 photographs and 40,000 documents. Group Visits: From exclusive tours to relaxed visits, they can ensure your group experience is a great day out for everyone. Enjoy a relaxed visit to the museum on a weekday with your group. As the museum is closed to general visitors during the week, group visitors will have the chance to visit whilst the museum and gardens team and volunteers, continue their work. You may catch a glimpse of conservation in action or groups of volunteers working on a particular project. 

School Visits: Workshops and visits designed specifically for UK schools.

Group Visits

Weekday Prices: Weekday (excluding bank holidays) 3 hour visit including access to museum, gardens and guided tour of Quex House:

  • £150 – up to 20 people
  • £200 – up to 30 people
  • + £5 for each additional person

Weekday (excluding bank holidays) 2 hour gardens only visit:

  • £75 – up to 20 people
  • £105 – up to 30 people
  • +£3.75 for each additional person

Optional Extras: Head Gardener or Curator Tour (45 minutes plus questions) – £150 extra per 20 people

Weekends:

The Museum, House and Gardens are open at weekends and bank holidays for the general public to visit:

  • February/March 11-3pm
  • April/May/June/July/August 11-4pm
  • September/October 11-3pm

If your group wishes to visit at these times when they are already open, you are welcome to visit on a self-guided basis. Your group can benefit from the weekend entry price of £2.50 per person.

They have a car park adjacent to the main museum building entrance. The parking is less than 50 metres from the main entrance. Parking is free and there are three accessible parking spaces. There is a drop-off point with a dropped curb at the main entrance. From the car park to the entrance, there is level access. The route is a minimum of 1500mm wide. You can get to the venue by car, bus and train and taxi. There are no buses passing Quex Park. The walk from Birchington village is level and there are no hills or slopes. The bus stop is 0.7 miles / 1.1 km from Powell-Cotton Museum, House and Gardens. The nearest train station is Birchington-on-Sea. The train station is 1 miles / 1.6 km from Powell-Cotton Museum, House and Gardens. You can get a taxi with Central Cars who offer an accessible taxi service.
