  • Powell-Cotton Museum: Explore one of the Kent’s most distinctive museums. Be awestruck by our natural history dioramas and cultural objects originating from the African and Asian continents.
  • Natural History Galleries: The Powell-Cotton Museum dioramas include the oldest intact large-scale habitat dioramas in the UK, and among the oldest and best preserved in the world. They contain over 300 animals from more than 150 species, in sculpted and painted settings of astounding detail. Built between 1896 and 1939, these displays are of enormous historical importance in themselves.
  • Gallery Guide: Explore our eight galleries, where you’ll find natural history dioramas, cultural objects from Africa, Asia, and Oceania, and fascinating archaeology from Thanet.

Facilities

  • Parking: We have a car park adjacent to the main museum building entrance. The parking is less than 50 metres from the main entrance. Parking is free and there are three accessible parking spaces.
  • Eating & Drinking: Felicity’s Cafe is situated at the front of the museum. They serve breakfasts, lunches, desserts and delicious afternoon tea’s. All their cakes are freshly baked on site.
  • Toilets: Toilets can be found in the main museum building. An accessible toilet is available.
  • Free Wifi: We aim to provide free WiFi throughout the Museum and parts of the Gardens, but access and signal strength can be intermittent in some areas.

  • By Car: We have a large free car park, with 3 marked disabled parking bays. Additional free parking is available on Quex Park.
  • By Bike: Closely located to national cycle route 15, the Viking Coastal Trail, the museum is a popular stop off. Bike stands are available at the front of the museum.
  • By Bus, Coach and Foot: The walk from Birchington village square is level and there are no hills or slopes. The bus stop is 0.7 miles / 1.1 km from us and is serviced by buses from Canterbury, Herne Bay and Westwood Cross shopping centre. The 022 coach from London Victoria also stops here. There are no buses passing Quex Park itself.
  • By Train: The nearest train station is Birchington-on-Sea. The train station is 1 mile / 1.6 km from Powell-Cotton Museum, House and Gardens.
  • Parking: We have a car park adjacent to the main museum building entrance. The parking is less than 50 metres from the main entrance. Parking is free and there are three accessible parking spaces.
