The organic walled garden, managed fully organically since 2002, features spring-flowering meadows, seasonal blooms, fruit harvests and colourful resident peacocks. The Hall also hosts a changing programme of art and photography exhibitions throughout the year in its gallery spaces.

  • Garden: Peaceful hidden spots, colourful peacocks and flowers, run alongside the river Rye. The garden has been managed fully organically since 2002. There are highlights in every season from spring flowering meadows to floral blooms in summer, and fruit harvests in autumn.
  • Exhibitions: Nunnington hosts a programme of changing exhibitions throughout the year in the gallery spaces in the house. See All the Wood's a Stage by Joe Cornish and Simon Baxter on open days until 29 March 2026.

Facilities

  • Parking: Free parking. From the direction of Hovingham the entrance is over the Nunnington village bridge, coming from the direction of Wombleton the entrance is before the bridge. Car park closes 15 minutes after closing time.
  • Food & Drinks: Make a day of it and refuel in the Tea Room, located within the historic house with views across the garden. Or head to the walled Tea Garden and relax on the bank of the River Rye while you eat. Treat yourself to a delicious scone, tasty soup or freshly prepared lunch. 
  • Bookshop: Second-hand bookshop on the ground floor of the house.
  • Picnic area: Picnic benches around the garden
  • Toilets: Toilets are available on the ground floor and first floor. Baby changing available on the first floor.
