Description

The Mid-Suffolk Light Railway, affectionately known as "The Middy," is a preserved heritage railway and museum that offers some of the best things to do with kids in Stowmarket. This charming heritage railway recreates the atmosphere of a rural Edwardian branch line, providing families with a chance to ride in authentic wooden-bodied carriages pulled by vintage steam locomotives. It is a living history experience where children can see, smell, and hear the golden age of steam.

Admission prices for standard steam days start from £15.00 for adults and £8.00 for children. Family tickets are also available for £30.00, covering two adults and two children, making it an affordable day out for the whole squad. Prices may vary for special event days like Santa Specials or themed weekends.

If you are looking for the best place for a day out with family and kids that combines history with a touch of adventure, "The Middy" is a fantastic choice. It offers a unique educational day out where kids can explore old station buildings, discover vintage railway wagons, and enjoy unlimited train rides on the day of their visit. It is a small but perfectly formed destination that avoids the overwhelming crowds of larger attractions.
