Description

Manchester Central Library is the largest public-serving library in England and a landmark in the heart of St Peter’s Square. First opened in 1934 and beautifully refurbished in 2014, it combines historic architecture with modern facilities. It serves as the headquarters of Manchester’s library and information service, offering education, culture, and community space under one roof.

Visitors can explore the magnificent Wolfson Reading Room, hidden heritage spaces, a media centre, and free WiFi throughout the building. The Children’s Library features a jungle theme, flexible storytelling spaces, child-sized seating, and a wide range of books from board books to dual-language stories and non-fiction. Guests can use library computers, access free internet (up to two hours for members), enjoy support sessions, relax in the on-site café, and benefit from accessible facilities including blue badge parking and toilets.

Admission is completely free. Internet access is free for members (up to two hours, extendable depending on availability), while non-members pay £2 per hour. Members over 60 or visually impaired are entitled to extended free access.
