Malvern Museum the town’s ancient monastic gatehouse is home to Malvern Museum of Local History. There are countless tales of old, from life on the exposed prehistoric hill forts to the medieval forest and monastery; from dripping wet sheets of Water.

Malvern Museum has over 8,000 items in its collection. Some of the larger artefacts are on permanent display. These include the medieval stonework and timbers on loan from Great Malvern priory church. The museum displays many of the smaller and more modern items only occasionally.

Features

Malvern Hills Room: This includes the development of the Priory Gatehouse. You can appreciate how the geology of the area has contributed to the later history of Malvern. Prehistoric and Roman activity is also explained through text, photographs and artefacts.
Medieval Room: Here you can follow the arrival of the Benedictine monks and the building of Malvern’s two priories. Would you have liked to live in Malvern’s Royal Forest or Chase?
Water Cure Room: This room explains how Malvern’s pure water attracted the new breed of Water Cure doctors. Malvern water featured in their many wet treatments. Discover the appeal of the donkeys while you are here.
Victorian Room: Here you can find out how Malvern changed into a wealthy and popular spa resort. This was helped by the arrival of the railway and many famous people.
Upstairs Gallery: Here visitors can see and touch the surviving window frames from the medieval Guesten Hall. New display boards invite you to explore life in Malvern between 1500 – 1800. You can read up about Sir Edward Elgar, and contemplate the impact of the quarries and work of the Conservators. Have a guess at what the radar scientist might be doing as well as find out about the little known American D-Day hospitals.
Twentieth Century Room: The pioneering Santler car and the later Morgan cars are always popular, made more so by a new touchscreen. Visitors can discover the cultural highlights of Malvern Festivals with G B Shaw and Sir Barry Jackson. The Lanchester Marionettes and 20th century industry also feature here. Discover Malvern’s role in the two world wars and the sacrifice of so many.
