Hereford Society of Model Engineering is a friendly volunteer-run attraction based at Broomy Hill in Hereford. It offers a relaxed family day out focused on miniature railways and model engineering. The site is open to the public on selected running days throughout the year.

The venue features two ride-on railway tracks, including an elevated track for smaller locomotives and a longer ground-level main line running from Broomy Hill Station for larger engines. Visitors can enjoy rides on a variety of model trains operating throughout the afternoon. The site also includes a 20m x 30m model boating pond and a newly extended garden railway.

On public running days, entry and parking are free, with train rides costing £1.50 per ride for all ages on either the main line or high-level track. Children’s birthday parties are available on selected Sundays, priced from £100 to £150, including train ride tickets, exclusive gazebo use, and a personalised birthday train headboard.

Broomy Hill has tracks for popular gauges of model locomotives with both an elevated and a ground level track. The site also boasts a 20m x 30m model boating pond along with a newly extended garden railway.
Come and visit us and enjoy a ride on one of the selection of trains that run throughout the afternoon on public running days. Broomy Hill has two separate tracks that you can ride on.
One is the elevated track that accommodates the smaller locomotives. The other, longer track, sees the larger engines and runs from Broomy Hill Station.

You can book a Children’s Party for a Sunday when we are running trains for the public (generally the second and fourth Sundays in the month, Easter to October)

We provide a Birthday Special headboard on a train (showing the child’s name).
Our permanent gazebo for your exclusive use (with picnic tables).
Train ride tickets for the children and adults.

You can bring refreshments/food for the children in the party. We usually have tea, coffee, soft drinks, cakes and biscuits for sale in the clubhouse.

Up to 10 party children: £100 (includes 50 train ride tickets)
10 to 15 party children: £120 (includes 75 train ride tickets)
15 to 20 party children: £150 (includes 100 train ride tickets)

After leaving the city centre ring road, you will be directed along a road called Broomy Hill. The houses on the left will end, and you will see a group of signs on the left, ours included. Go left down the tarmac track, and pass between the football hut and the modern building. 50m further along enter our gate on the right with ‘HSME’ in large letters on the top. Car parking is free.
